Rehrig Pacific Company, logistics optimizers for many of the world’s leading brands, creates reusable packaging solutions that reduce costs and waste in supply chains.
In late July 2014, Rehrig Pacific conducted field tests to evaluate delivery and merchandising productivity at two stages in the DSD Systems process. DSD System optimization solutions designed by Rehrig Pacific to improve beverage routing efficiencies at each stage in the DSD process were compared to a distributor’s existing DSD method.
One particular set of tests assessed the time required for a driver to transport pallets of small-format, single-serve products from the storefront to the back room.

To test and verify that utilizing Rehrig Pacific’s new
DSD-GS solution provides measurable driver
productivity benefits compared to both the traditional
hand truck and dolly delivery method
and Rehrig Pacific’s existing
DSD System.
Rehrig Pacific, in partnership with a regional beverage distributor in Southern California, conducted the time tests at an Aliso Viejo Shell convenience store. The test compared this distributor’s current delivery method (electric hand truck and dolly) with two Rehrig Pacific DSD system—its existing DSD Delivery System (DSD Lift and DSD Shuttle), and the new DSD-GS solution which consists of the DSD R40 Electric Lift, GS Pallet, Pallet Wrapz® and DSD Hydraulic Sled.
PURPOSE
METHODOLOGYTwo pallets of different quantities of small-format, single-serve, immediate-consumption products were used in time tests in order to gather objective, scientifically comparable results.
Note:
The traditional delivery method required breakdown of the pallet at the storefront onto a hand truck, whereas both Rehrig Pacific DSD Systems allowed pallets to be moved directly to the back room.
Since the field tests, Rehrig Pacific has upgraded the DSD Hydraulic Sled for improved functionality.

Rehrig Pacific’s new DSD-GS System
reduced delivery times by over 3 minutes per delivery compared to the distributor’s existing delivery method.
TIME TESTS RESULTS
The traditional method took 4:46 minutes to break down the pallet in front of the store and move product on a dolly to the back room.
Traditional Traditional Dolly
Rehrig Pacific’s existing DSD System with DSD Shuttle required 2:06 minutes.

The Rehrig Pacific DSD-GS System with DSD Hydraulic Sled required only 52 seconds to deliver to the back room, saving 3:54 minutes over the traditional hand truck and dolly method.

DSD-GS SystemThis redesigned DSD solution replaces the 1st generation dolly with an integrated DSD Hydraulic Sled for improved ease of delivery.
GS PalletNew pallet designed for this DSD System is wider and more stable for loading, unloading and use as a floor ready display (FRD) for retailers.
Retail Ready MerchandiserA branded crate that includes easy-to-identify logo and colors. This material handling asset can be embedded with Near Field Communication (NFC), an interactive technology to digitally engage with customers. Lighter and more nestable than previous generations of RRM’s the new RRM contributes to lowering shipping costs and enhancing sustainability initiatives.
Reusable Pallet ShrinkA new product designed to eliminate the need for wasteful one-way packaging, including disposable shrink-wrap.

Quick Floor Ready DisplayProfile Improves Nestability
Based on these time tests, we are confident that the
use of Rehrig Pacific’s DSD-GS System with its DSD
Hydraulic Sled results in productivity gains over
Rehrig Pacific’s existing DSD System, but significantly
improves productivity over the hand truck and dolly
method used by many beverage distributors.
A new generation reusable pallet, the GS Pallet, has been designed specifically for the Rehrig DSD R40 Electric Lift and DSD Hydraulic Sled. Its lower and wider profile also offers improved nestability, better product protection and enhanced capabilities as a floor ready display (FRD).
