IntroductionWhat are handheld consoles?

A handheld game console is a lightweight console that is portable and runs on batteries, with a built-in screen and game controls.

The Game Boy was released to the Japanese public in 1989, 2 years later in the US.  Three years after its initial release it had sold over 32 million units

The Game Boy was developed by Gunpei Yokoi and his team at Nintendo. 

By 1997, a new and improved Game Boy called the Game Boy Pocket was released

with a higher quality "clear" LCD screen and smaller in size.

Over 650 games have been released for the original and pocket Game Boy units

Is the first handheld video game console to use an optical disc format

Biggest screen with 4.30 inch screen

First handheld to be able to access internet browser wirelessly

By 2007, Sony released an improved, slimmer and lighter version of the PSP

Had the best 3D capabilities at the time.

Supports blue tooth connectivity

Did not impact the market , resulting to poor sales

There is no need for 3D glasses to enjoy the effects

It was the first handheld console with 3D capability

Nintendo has been experimenting with 3D technology since the1980’s

It was released on February 26 , 2011 in Japan

New addition to the DS collections

Sold 374,764 units within its first week of launch

Xbox has not made a handheld console

Everything may be in one device such as cellular phone which has better portability

Future
