• Starting from the surface and going in, – The outer layer of the earth is called the CRUST. It is broken

into PLATES made of DIRT and ROCK (where FOSSILS are found).

– Under that is the MANTLE, most of which is melted rock that moves like SYRUP.

– The center of the earth is the CORE. It consists of IRON and NICKEL.
