Records at Hampton Court show that in a single year of Henry VIII's reign the kitchens dealt with 1,240 oxen, 8,200 sheep, 2300 dear, 7,60 calves,1,870 pigs,53 wild boar.

No wonder he needed a winch to pull him upstairs to bed! www.learninglive.co.uk/

Bonjour!

He speaks French, English, and Latin, and a little Italian, plays well on the lute and harpsichord, sings from book at sight, draws the bow with greater strength  than any man in England, and jousts marvelously.

Written by the Venetian ambassador to Henry's court.

Jousting

It is said that he could use a bow and arrow better than any man in England. (Perhaps no other man dared to beat him).

Archery – using a bow and arrow

It is said that he owned

10 trombones, 14 trumpets, 5 bagpipes, 76 recorders and 78 flutes!

Oh my heart – a poem by Henry VIII

Oh my heart, and oh my heart, My hart it is so sore. Since I must from my love depart, And know no cause wherefore. http://englishhistory.net/tudor/prihenry.html

He composed many pieces of music, one  was called ‘Helas Madame’

Bagpipes

He was famous for wrestling and loved hunting stags in the forests which still covered most of England. He played a game very like tennis.

His fingers were one mass of jewelled rings, and around his neck he wore a gold collar from which hung a diamond as big as a walnut http://www.brims.co.uk/tudors/henry.html

Hampton Court Palace

He was a terrible and cruel King. He executed (had killed) anyone who disagreed with him (including two of his wives!)

By the time Henry died, everyone was completely terrified of him.
