    Sample Selection and Preparation The IDEXX VetAutoread™ analyzer is designed to analyze whole-blood samples. Good sample collection and preparation are necessary for optimum results on the IDEXX VetAutoread™ Hematology Analyzer.

    n Preparation of an IDEXX VetTube™

    3.Depressandholddowntheplunger.Inserttheacridineorange-coatedendofthetubeintothemiddleofthesample.Releasetheplungersmoothly.Ensurethatthebloodreachesthe111-µLblackfillline.

    4.Liftupthepipettor.Wipetheoutsideofthetubesurfacewithalint-freewipe.Insertthetubeendintothecapinthetray.Securebytwistingthepipettorahalf-turn.

    5.Holdthepipettorhorizontallyandunlockthebarrelbytwistingitclockwise.Gentlyremovethetube.

    7a. Insertthefloat.Holdthetubehorizontallyandslideitoverthetipofthefloat.Holdthetubeclosetothegreenlines,liftthetubeanddislodgethefloatfromtheslot.Touchthetubeendagainstthebackofthetray.NEVERTOUCHTHEFLOATWITHYOURFINGERS.

    7b. Alternatemethod:Useforcepstoinsertthefloat.

    8.CentrifugethetubeintheIDEXXVetCentrifuge™for5minutes.Makesuretobalancethecentrifugewithanothertubedirectlyoppositethesample.Ensurethatthecentrifugecoverisproperlyfastened.(Bovinesamplesshouldbespuntwicewithathree-minutewaitinbetweentoensurecoolingofthecentrifuge.)

    9.Promptlyremovethetube.Wipethetubetomakesurethatitiscleanfrombloodorfingerprints.Ensurethattheplasmalevelisbetweenthetwogreenlines.Ifnot,discardthetubeandprepareafreshtube.

    2.Usetheappropriatesample-collectiondevices.

    1.Usetheappropriatetube(EDTAforcanine,felineorequineblood,andsodiumcitrateforbovineblood).

    3.Dispensethesampleintothepropertubeandfilltothemanufacturer’sspecifications(generally½to¾full).Donotdepresstheplungerforcefully.Ifusingasyringe,removetheneedle.

    4.Gentlyinvertthetubefor30seconds(atleast10times)tomix.

    1. Withthenozzlepointingawayfromyou,unlockthepipettorbytwistingthebarrelclockwise.Insertthetubeendwithgreenlinesintothebarrel.Lockitinplacebytwistingthebarrelcounterclockwise.

    2.IfthesamplesitsbetweentransferintotheEDTAtubeanddrawingintotheIDEXXVetTube,gentlyinvertthetubefor30seconds(atleast10times)tomix.Forbovinesamples,refertothebovine-specificsamplepreparationkit.

    6.Holdthetubehorizontallyandrollitbetweenyourfingersforatleast30secondstoensureadequatestaining.
