HEART WARMING EXPERIENCES FOR MANDELA DAY

Kindly hearts from the dedicated staff members attracted

community to join Lower Umfolozi Hospital in their activi-

ties during Mandela Day. Amongst activities that was done

on the day was the launch of “ZAZI” campaign, spring

cleaning one of the wards – Post Natal Ward, visit to the

place of Safety at Ngwelezana, serving of soup, breads,

sweets and cakes to all patients other than normal care.

ZAZI CAMPAIGN

Hospital team adopted Old Mill High

School – Empangeni as its school and

launched the “ZAZI” campaign which

is aims at encouraging children espe-

cially girls to know themselves and

focus on their future. Boys are also not

left aside as they should support girls

in making their dreams come true by

treating them as their own sisters in

order to reduce the high teenage preg-

nancy rate. Motivational talks given

to learners and the teams went to clas-

ses motivating children to focus on

their careers and distance themselves

from social activities that would de-

stroy their future. After the presenta-

tion that was done, learners were given

green ribbons as a symbol of “ZAZI”

just to commit themselves on improv-

ing their lives and taking good care and

be proud of themselves.

warm treatment re-

ceived by patients on a

daily basis, High Risk

Clinic staff members

were so kind to give

soup and bread to all

patients during this spe-

cial day.

“JUST TO GIVE THEM LOVE”

SCM, Finance, Neonatal Unit, HR, PR and

Systems departments visited place of safety at

Ngwelezane where they spent their time plant-

ing the vegetable garden for the orphanage,

ironing clothes for the children and playing

with them. They brought toys, food parcels,

and prams and car seats to the children. Chil-

dren responded with music dance and appreci-

ated a visit and were given hugs and shown

maternal love.

was doing. “it was such a touch-

ing experience, seeing children

who needs love happily enjoying

what they are offered without

knowing what is happening out-

side “ Khaya said who was the

team leader for the visit at

Ngwelezana place of safety.

Staff members from Post Natal Ward

were spring cleaning their ward

which they were then joined by the

community members. Chairperson of

Sukuma Sakhe and people from Em-

pangeni area helped in cleaning the

ward.
