William E Hannan & Associates was formed in 1983 to provide Building Services Consultancy. The company today continues to focus exclusively on Building Services Engineering and operates from offices in Manchester, London & Edinburgh. We work successfully throughout the UK and abroad and the business has grown consistently. A Commercial approach to design strategies, together with the careful usage of the latest technologies and sustainable design has ensured that 80% of the practice turnover is achieved through repeat business. The development of the company has been aided by a strong and loyal work force through which the company has developed long term relationships with major end user clients. Hannan Associates is committed to creating successful buildings through attention to detail utilising our breadth of experience, technical skills and with levels of personal attention not provided by our competitors. Our design solutions are renowned for pushing beyond current thinking whilst controlling risk and delivering on the key essentials of client and end user satisfaction. The company is led by Directors Ian Joyce, John Walker and Jamie Hall. Ian has been with Hannans since it began, John joined the company 19 years ago and Jamie 21 years ago. The core of our business plan is controlled growth built upon a best practice approach to all aspects of the running of the business. The company strives for continuous improvement and supports this with an ongoing investment plan. Business is deliberately conducted in a number of sectors and projects are of varying sizes in order to provide financial resilience. Meet the Sustainable Design Team Jamie Hall, Rebecca Dagnall, Matthew Dalley and Andrew Carrington lead the Hannan Low Carbon team. They are registered CIBSE Low Energy Consultants, BREEAM Accredited Professionals and BREEAM and Residential Sustainability Assessors. Together they possess a unique, intimate understanding and knowledge of energy use in buildings. They can each draw upon extensive experience of sustainable and low energy projects, including a variety of renewable technologies providing valuable knowledge of the feasibility, construction and operation of developments with renewable sources.
Sustainable Design Energy reduction, which is the core of sustainable design, was inherent in our building design process long before it reached the political agenda. Our sustainable credentials are therefore built upon years of experience at the forefront of low energy, low carbon solutions for a wide range of sectors. Our approach is holistic and collaborative, extending beyond the building services systems to the fabric and form of buildings and development sites. Our team includes qualified and experienced BREEAM Accredited Professionals who provide the design team with guidance and support from the early stages of the design process through to construction to ensure that good environmental and sustainability practice is incorporated into a building in an efficient and cost-effective manner. All our engineers and technicians possess a unique, intimate understanding and knowledge of energy use in buildings and we have a full range of modelling and simulation tools at our disposal to ensure the optimum solution for each situation. Our expertise encompasses the selection and incorporation of renewable energy sources to offset energy demand and our projects have included a variety of renewable technologies.

BREEAM Assessment Hannan Associates have a proven track record in undertaking BREEAM assessments for a diverse mix of building types. We are proficient in the techniques and processes required to design and achieve BREEAM certification to the highest standards. Our assessments to date encompass every major sector including industrial, healthcare and education and have been commissioned at the request of major contractors and developers. Our BREEAM Assessors have years of experience in the field of sustainability and have devised a suite of bespoke documents tailored to streamline the assessment process and provide a highly efficient service. The Windings Extra Care Scheme, Helsby
Client: Your Housing Group Architect: Pozzoni LLP Project Value: £8.7M Contract Duration: February 2013 – June 2015 Description:
The Windings in Helsby is one of the latest extra care retirement scheme we have worked on for Your Housing Group. The scheme, designed by Pozzoni Architects, which reach completion in 2015 includes 77, 1 and 2 bed extra care apartments and communal facilities. The scheme has been created through a partnership between Your Housing Group, Cheshire West and Chester Council and the HCA and was part funded by a grant received from the HCA. This extra care development has been designed to allow residents to live an independent life in a socially supportive environment. They contribute towards YHG’s £150 million affordable homes programme helping tackle the national older person’s housing crisis by providing 450 high quality new homes for the over 55s across the North West, making YHG one of the largest developers of extra care housing in the UK. As a minimum all apartments have been designed to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes (CFSH) Level 3.

Kingswood Extra-Care Scheme, Chester Client: Your Housing Group Architect: Pozzoni LLP Project Value: £8.4M Contract Duration: August 2013 – May 2015 Description: The Kingsway extra care retirement scheme in Chester is one of the latest projects we have worked on for Your Housing Group. The scheme, designed by Pozzoni Architects, which reached completion during 2015 includes 82, 1 and 2 bed extra care apartments and communal facilities. Abbots Wood Extra Care, Northgate, Chester Client: Your Housing Group Architect: Michael Hyde Architects Project Value: £18M Contract Duration: Jan 2011 – October 2014 Description: Abbots Wood is an Extra Care Retirement Village in Northgate, Chester, which we worked on for Your Housing Group. The project designed by Michael Hyde Architects involved the construction of 131, one and two bedroom apartments and communal facilities. The schemes has been created through a partnership between Your Housing Group, Cheshire West and Chester Council and the HCA and was part funded by a grant received from the HCA. This extra care development had been designed to allow residents to live an independent life in a socially supportive environment. They contribute towards YHG’s £150 million affordable homes programme helping tackle the national older person’s housing crisis by providing 450 high quality new homes for the over 55s across the North West, making YHG one of the largest developers of extra care housing in the UK. Drovers House Care Home, Rugby Client: WCS Care Group Architect: Pozzoni LLP Project Value: £6.2m Contract Duration: January 2011 – July 2013 Description: Drovers House is a 75 bed specialist care and nursing home designed to support people with Alzheimers and other forms of dementia. Our duties included developing an MEP Performance Specification based on the client requirements and checking and monitoring the contractor design

EachStep Blackley Care Home, Manchester Client: Community Integrated Care Architect: Pozzoni LLP Project Value: £5m Contract Duration: February 2010 – April 2012 Description: This project involved the construction of a new care home proving 48 care beds and 12 respite beds all with en-suite bathrooms and communal facilities. This North-Manchester based service provides a complete range of dementia support. The state-of-the-art facility provides a residential and nursing care home, a respite service, as well as a day care service. The care home provides extensive facilities to support activities for its users, including large dedicated activity and reminiscence areas; an accessible gym, library and cinema screen for leisure and recreation; as well as domestic kitchens and laundry facilities. The accommodation was designed to meet BREEAM 2008 very good for multi residential buildings.

Pickmere Court Extra Care Housing Scheme, Crewe Client: Wulvern Housing Association Architect: Pozzoni LLP Project Value: £8.75M Contract Duration: January 2011 – May 2012 Description: This project comprised the refurbishment and new build extension to an existing Extra Housing Development in Crewe to create 86 new retirement apartments. The MEP strategy for this development determined by Hannan Associates, was selected to form the benchmark standard for future retirement villages. Central plant consisting of high efficiency gas fired boilers and a gas fired CHP unit serves all of the apartments via a district heating distribution system. Each apartment has a heat interface unit which is individually metered to enable the occupiers to monitor energy consumption. The building was designed to meet Code for Sustainable Homes Rating: Level 3

Brookside Extra Care Housing Scheme, Ormskirk Client: Your Housing Group Architect: Pozzoni LLP Project Value: £13.2M Contract Duration: September 2008 – April 2012 Description: This project involved the construction of 111 one and two bed Retirement Apartments. 15 of the apartments were specifically designed for people with dementia. Facilities for residents include Bistro café, Community Room, Library, IT suite, Exercise studio, Music studio, Hair salon, Lounges. Brookside is also a base for several local organisations providing care and support services within Brookside and to the wider community including Your Housing Group, HICA home care, NHS Older Adult mental health and memory assessment teams, Age UK, Alzheimer’s Society and Visiting medical professionals from the local community health trust. Our design for the care home incorporated Central plant consisting of high efficiency gas fired boilers and a gas fired CHP unit serving all apartments via a district heating distribution system. Parkhaven Court Extra Care Scheme, Maghull Client: Your Housing Group Architect: Pozzoni LLP Project Value: £2.7M Contract Duration: June 2009 – November 2010 Description: The project involved the construction of 24 Extra Care apartments, Day Centre and communal facilities built within the grounds of the Parkhaven Trust site, Maghull. The facility was designed specifically for people with dementia. The units comprise of one and two bed apartments, each self-contained and designed specifically for elderly people requiring care, but who are still able to maintain a degree of independence.

Student Living Dubai Student Accommodation
Client: Global Student Accommodation Group Architect: Stride Treglown Architects Contract Duration: June 2014 – ongoing Description: As part of the Spectrum MEP Consortium and our Dubai partner office we undertook the LEED assessment, detail design and tender drawings for Stride Treglown Architects and their client Global Student Accommodation Group for this student accommodation development in Dubai. We have also been engaged to undertake post contract site supervision duties.
Local approval has been received to develop a 424 bed scheme in Dubai, located within the Dubai Land Residences Complex. This development will represent GSA’s and Stride Treglown’s first student living scheme in the Emirates. The building is currently onsite and will be ready for occupation in the 2015 academic year.
The building, called Uninest Dubai Land, is 10 storeys high and includes two basement levels providing car parking facilities. The accommodation consists of single occupancy en-suite fully furnished, and twin occupancy en-suite fully furnished rooms in varying apartment sizes with open plan kitchen / living spaces. A number of larger studios rooms with self-contained kitchenettes are also available. Generous communal facilities are provided in the building including a pool, quiet rooms, study areas complete with mac stations, a coffee shop and two roof terraces.

LJMU Student Accommodation Client John Moores University Description: Hannan Associates were part of the team that won a Civic Trust Award for their ‘Valuable Contribution to the Quality and Appearance of the Environment’ for this building. The project involved the conversion of the grade II listed North Western Hotel. John Moores University converted the building into city centre student accommodation. The building forms an important part of the collection of 19th Century buildings on St Georges’ Plateau, and the work involved extensive restoration of the exterior and parts of the interior where surviving original elements were retained. Hannan Associates provided full Mechanical and Electrical detail design services for this projects. .

St Ebbes St. Student Accommodation, Oxford Client: Pan Albion LLP Contract Duration: October 2010 – April 2013 Project Value: £2,000,000 Description: St Ebbes Street is located in Oxford City Centre. The project comprised the design and installation of fifty new student bedrooms, showers, kitchens and a laundry for overseas and visiting GCSE students. The building was a multi-storey existing modern construction with restaurant and night club at ground floor and basement level. Part of the project included the construction of an extra storey at roof level and the installation of new plant rooms and services to the new student accommodation and the existing restaurant and nightclub.
