Guiseppe Arcimboldo Portraits FIMA Collage Project

Go on google and search for a portrait picture to base your collage on Copy and paste that image into a new photoshop file 8.5 x 11 “ Edit > Transform > Scale Stretch the photo to fit the white box

This is your layer box. Click the image layer and then click the lock. That will lock the layer so that you don’t accidentally mess with it while you are doing your project. Double click on the background layer over the lock. The lock will disappear. That makes that layer editable for later.

Now go back to google and start finding your images. For mine, I am going to use fruits and vegetables. Copy and paste your first image into your photoshop file.

Now, use the magic wand tool and click on the white around the image. Press delete. This erases the background. Then press, CTRL and D That will deselect the image and allow you to edit it more.

If you need more of the same image (like I need more artichokes for hair) you click the layer and drag it down to the “new layer” button. A new layer will appear and call itself a copy. Now you have a copy of the layer you want.

To change the size or rotation of your image, click Edit > Transform > Scale You can also do Edit > Transform > Rotate…etc

Continue finding images and piecing your portrait together.

Sometimes, you will use your magic wand and not all of the background will erase how you want. In that case, you will use the direct selection tool instead, to select and erase any remaining parts of the background.

Once selected, you can press delete and get rid of any remaining Background.

Don’t forget, you can Edit > Transform > Rotate to use the same object just in a different position ( see banana )

Every so often, click the eye next to the layer that has your reference photo to check and see what it looks like so far.

I find it helpful to label the layers as what they are so that you can click drag and rearrange the layers as you need.

When complete, select the background layer and choose a color for your background using the Paint Bucket tool.

Just click the background Later and it will fill in as the Selected color.

You can add a gradient instead for your background. Select a color and then use the gradient tool to click and drag a gradient on your background layer. MAKE SURE THE LAYER IS SELECTED

FINISHED PORTRAIT YOU MUST SAVE IT IN YOUR H: DRIVE!! FILE > EXPORT > SAVE FOR WEB SAVE AS JPG YOU MUST PUT IT IN GOOGLE PORTFOLIO FOR GRADING.
