This course examines various HK discourses proliferated in HK, especially in the post-1997 context, bridging together history, images & metaphors, and cultural phenomena. Not just viewing HK by itself, but also treat her as a node or focal point by which other ties or geopolitics will be explored too. Equipped with some theory and concepts, we will cover some key readings by some scholars in the field.

⚫ The course focuses on how the advent of the digital age (orthe information age) has brought about categorical changesin the everyday life, media, social and personal expressions,and cultural production. Yet, traditional media continues toexist, and interacts with the evolving digital technologies.
⚫ Grounded within the context of Cultural Studies, students willbe exposed to topics from both theoretical and practicalapproaches and will attempt to relate these topics toChinese-speaking societies.
⚫ The course is designed to first equipped students with somekey theoretical and conceptual frameworks in digital cultureand society, before delving into specific topics of interest.
STUDY SCHEMEStudents are required to complete 8 courses
(24 units) for graduation:
(a) Required course: CULS5301 and
(b) At least 5 Special Elective Courses
