GEG is an independent community run initiative to which Google is the primary partner and inspiration. GEGs are for any educator who is passionate about meeting the needs of their students through technology solutions and collaborating with other educators who feel the same way. ¨ Google Sites ¨ Facebook ¨ Twitter ¨ Google+
We asked our members, “Do you have experiences you'd be happy to share with other educators?”

¤ 13% replied to our request for feedback ¤ The responses represent a sample of 39 people from our
membership database of 296 ¤ The members surveyed were those attending a workshop
with GEG WJ
We asked our members, “Do you have experiences you'd be happy to share with other educators?”
¤ 28% said “YES, we have experiences we are happy to share with other educators”
¤ 72% said, “NO, we do not have experiences we are happy to share with other educators”
We asked our members, “Do you have experiences you'd be happy to share with other educators?”
¤ Those that answered, “YES” noted the following reasons for joining GEG WJ: n Learning Google Apps for Education, n Networking with People, n Joining Google Educator Group Team, n Sharing Educational Technology
experiences
What does this tell us?
¤ 2 ½ times as many people feel either their experiences are not worth sharing or they are unhappy to share their experiences or offer to take a leading role
¤ Either way, we aimed to change this perspective
What change did we seek?
¤ We wanted GEG WJ members to gain experiences they consider to be worth sharing, i.e. success
¤ We wanted GEG WJ members to gain a happiness to share their experiences, i.e. confidence
Action Plan
¤ Four Workshops: Google DRIVE, GAFEs, Code Gaming & Launching Google Classroom
¤ Using teachers (GEG MEMBERS) as facilitators to model ‘sharing is safe’
¤ Emphasize team learning, encouragement and celebrating success
The result
We conducted training at two different venues, over four sessions, with fellow teachers as facilitators.
The result
q 20 GEG Members / workshop participants responded
q 30% said, “No” or they wanted to learn more as a participant
q 70% said, “Yes” or they wanted to lead in some way at the next event
The result
q 2.3 x more people were interested in taking a leadership role at the next GEG workshop/s
q Roles offered included:
q Becoming a trainer/speaker
q Becoming Translator,
q Becoming Planning Team,
q Becoming Trainer's Assistants,
q Initiate a new GEG in your region
Final thoughts ¤ Teachers training teachers not only
provide a transfer of skill and knowledge, it also: n Exposes teachers to potential growth
opportunities n Models risk taking and reward n Encourages teachers to shed potentially
limiting beliefs n Provides a safe environment to try and
succeed
