National Institute of Technology Warangal
(https://www.nitw.ac.in/), formerly known as Re-
gional Engineering College was established in
1959. Over the years it has developed into a prem-
ier institute of higher learning and is ranked
among the top technical education institutions in
India. About 5000 students across the country and
about 500 international students study on the cam-
pus. The alumni of the institute hold responsible
and enviable positions all over the world and are
in constant touch with the institute.
The Institute offers eight undergraduate pro-
grammes (B.Tech.,) in engineering, Twenty nine
post graduate programmes (M.Tech., M.Sc., MCA
and MBA) in engineering, sciences and manage-
ment and research programmes in engineering, sci-
ences, humanities, physical education
and management.The institute is well-known for its
Research and Development, Industrial consultancy,
Continuing education and Training programmes for
teachers and industrial personnel.
Department of Civil Engineering, NIT, Waran-
gal
The Department of Civil Engineering with four
divisions offers an undergraduate program in Civil
Engineering and eight postgraduate programs. The
Department also has the mini center of excellence
in geospatial technologies and carrying out the re-
search and consultancy services in the field of ge-
ospatial technologies.
The department offers M.Tech (RS&GIS) program
with intake of 25 students. Since its inception, the
RS&GIS section is actively engaged in different
research and consultancy projects in the field of
geospatial technologies.
Infrastructure at NIT, Warangal
The Institute currently has thirteen academic
departments and a few advanced research cen-
tres in various disciplines of engineering, pure
sciences and management, with nearly 100
laboratories organized in a unique pattern of
functioning, Central Library with state of the
art facilities, Auditorium, Student Activity
Centre, Mega Computer Centre, Indoor
Games Complex, big stadium, Seminar Halls
with required infrastructure, Dispensary with
state of art of facilities, etc.
NIT Warangal also has excellent infrastructure in
the form of seminar halls, guest houses and labor-
atories. In house accommodation will be given to
the participants of the program. Geospatial pro-
gram of the department has separate computer lab
of 40 capacity. Faculty of RS&GIS specialization,
faculty of civil department working in the applica-
tions of geospatial technologies, will be the sub-
jects experts for this program. NRSC, Hyderabad
is in close proximity to NIT Warangal and scien-
tists from NRSC will present expert lectures on
application of geospatial technologies.
About the Orientation Program in Geospatial
Technologies
The three day orientation program in geospatial
technologies supported by the Natural Resource Da-
ta Management System of the Department of Sci-
ence and Technology, Government of India mainly
caters to the needs of decision makers and practic-
ing engineers who need knowledge in geospatial
technologies for their decision making activities.
Introduction to geospatial technologies, latest geo-
spatial concepts and few hands on software ses-
sions are the main components of the program.
