CASCADING APPROACHES FOR DEFINITIVE DIAGNOSIS OF CELIAC DISEASE
Working closely with our clinical and research GI colleagues, we have established several cascading algorithms to aid in the definitive diagnosis of celiac disease. These algorithms, each with a specific utility, automatically reflex to perform necessary tests with a single order.
Available Celiac Cascades:
} Celiac Disease Serology Cascade (Mayo Test ID: CDSP)
} Celiac Disease Comprehensive Cascade (Mayo Test ID: CDCOM)
} Celiac Disease Gluten-Free Cascade (Mayo Test ID: CDGF)
RAPID IDENTIFICATION OF THE CAUSATIVE AGENTS OF GI INFECTIONS
Mayo Clinic’s clinical microbiology laboratories span all areas of conventional and molecular microbiology and offer more than 200 tests designed for rapid identification of the causative agents of infectious diseases.
Our laboratories perform more than 2.8 million tests annually and have developed and implemented culture techniques, immunoassays, and nucleic acid and proteomic methods for rapid detection and identification of microbial pathogens.
COMPREHENSIVE TESTING FOR GI CANCERS
Our combination of targeted, single-gene test options and comprehensive next-generation sequencing (NGS) panels provides clinicians with flexible and cost-effective approaches to evaluating patients for GI cancers.
Furthermore, our genetic testing menu is focused on providing clinically actionable information, which enables clinicians to utilize potential therapies that target an individual’s specific tumor and molecular alterations, as well as identify and monitor other at-risk family members.

USING FEWER TESTS FOR IBD DIAGNOSIS AND THERAPEUTIC MONITORING
DIFFERENTIATION BETWEEN IBD AND IBS Calprotectin is frequently used as part of the diagnostic evaluation of patients with suspected IBD, as elevated concentrations may be useful in distinguishing IBD from functional gastrointestinal disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
DIAGNOSIS OF ULCERATIVE COLITIS AND CROHN’S DISEASE IN SUSPECTED IBD PATIENTS Our serology panel, which is based on significant peer-reviewed literature, examines only the characteristic patterns of antibodies with demonstrated clinical utility.
A NOVEL APPROACH TO THERAPEUTIC MONITORING OF INFLIXIMAB CONCENTRATIONS Measurement of infliximab concentrations helps guide clinicians in making treatment decisions for their IBD patients. Clinically significant antibodies-to-infliximab are found in patients with very low-trough infliximab concentrations in their serum. Therefore, a reflexive approach, which performs testing for antibodies-to-infliximab only when it is clinically relevant, benefits patients and reduces costs for the ordering institution.
