GRICAS Objectives

• Funded under H2020 Call Galileo-2015-1• Duration: 21 months (Jan. 2016 – Oct. 2017)

• Objective: To improve safety and security of air navigation

• Thanks to new ICAO requirements : “CRITERIA TO DETECT IN-FLIGHT AIRCRAFT DISTRESS EVENTS TO TRIGGER TRANSMISSION OF FLIGHT INFORMATION “ (WG 98/MASPS ED-237)• To be implemented by 2021

GRICAS Autonomous Distress Tracking

-A distress signal-Auto triggered by specific internal or external event -Possible manually activation

ADFR Automatic Deployable Recorder

GRICAS Aircraft Tracking Abnormal Operation

-Triggered by abnormal events-Provide flight location data at least once per minute

Aircraft Tracking Normal Operation

GRICAS Application Domain

To propose and demonstrate innovative and global solution Abnormal operations (in some specific cases) Autonomous Distress Tracking (ADT)

NOT a solution for Tracking in Normal Operations !

Usage of MEOSAR Service of COSPAS/SARSAT Second Generation Beacon (SGB-ELT) On-Board of aircraft

Usage of Galileo Return Link made whenever its pertinent

Activation/De-activation• Manually• Internal events (shock,…)• External events• Remotely from Ground

Galileo Constellation 0 ATC Lost Aircraft Position

1 ATC asks Aviation Authority to authorise beacon activation

2 Aviation Authority asks MCC to activate the beacon

3 MCC asks RLSP to activate beacon

4 RLSP builds RLM Message, GMS uplinks it.

5 Galileo Sat. dowlinks RLM

6 Beacons receives RLM then activate emission distress Signal

7 Galileo Sat relays Distress Signal to ground

8 MEOLUT computes Beacon location and forwards it to MCC/RCC

9 RCC informs ATC of Aircraft positionATC
