A famous conquistador for Spain

Francisco was born in Salamanca, Spain in the year 1510.

He left home at an early age because his wealthy parents promised the family fortune to his older brother when they died.

Francisco sailed to Mexico in the new world.

Was a Spanish governor in the new world

Francisco Vasquez de Coronado was a Spanish nobleman who explored and the first who discovered the southwestern part of what is now the United States.

Discovered the southwestern part of what is now the United States.

Was the first Europeans to travel up the Rio Grande.

Also found many Indian settlements and explored the Grand canyon.

Was a governor for the Spanish in the new world.

Between 1536-1539 Francisco heard stories about the seven golden cities of Cibolo, but never found it.

And mostly traveled by land.

His expeditions gave much geographic knowledge of the new world’s southwest region.

What I realized about Francisco was that he had disappointed the Spanish king because he found no riches but also appointed a new governor because he had tried so hard.

he was accused of mistreating and abusing the Native Americans.

Then died in 1554.
