St Joseph’s community is deeply appreciative and grateful for the time Dawn has worked at our school wearing many, many, different hats of expertise.
your commitment and service to St Joseph’s School, Hindmarsh since September
1985 is highly commendable.
You have served the community with the ethos of Mary MacKillop guiding you and your
decisions, extending a warmth and level of pastoral care to all you encounter.
Your favourite saying that we have all heard you say is “If you get to make a difference in
someone's life just once in a day, it’s been worthwhile.”
We wish you every blessing for a wonderful retirement. May it be filled with many precious
moments, good health and cheer.
You will be missed dearly at St Joseph’s but now it’s your turn to have fun! ENJOY!

Dear Parents and Carers
The Cultural Day Assembly was a wonderful celebration of the cultural richness in our community. The
school hall was filled with a sense of excitement, pride and a kaleidoscope of colourful costumes
representing the 41 different nationalities that children in our school identify with. Maria Apostolou
filmed a number of children reading a book written by Mem Fox, “I’m Australian too’ - I would highly
recommend you see this on our school Facebook page! So proud! Maria and children!
to Signora Campbell for organising such a wonderful day, promoting and acknowledging
that everyone belongs at our school, every culture is valued and respected and together we are a
wonderful tapestry of love and connection. Mary MacKillop would be proud of St Joseph’s Hindmarsh!
We are indeed living her mission 90 years on!
CELEBRATING 105 YEARS OF MSCs MINISTRY IN OUR PARISH
The Feast of the Sacred Heart was celebrated on Friday, with our Year 6 students attending, along with
students from each of the parish schools – all in grateful appreciation for Fr Bill and the Missionaries of the
Sacred Heart who have administered in our parish for the past 105 years!
On Saturday night, the Parish came together to celebrate and give thanks for the 105 years that the MSCs
have ministered. It was a joyous Mass co-celebrated by MSC Provisional leader, Fr Chris McPhee, Father
Philip Marshall, Fr Bill Brady, Fr Chris Murphy, Fr Noel Mansfield and other visiting priests – It is indeed
an end of an era.
Student Wellbeing
Students in Years 5 and 6 are participating in a new initiative being offered by Catholic Education SA in
conjunction with professors from the Flinders University. The P.E.A.C.E (Preparation, Education, Action,
Coping and Evaluation) Pack program is designed to reduce bullying in our schools. “It is an intervention
program addressing bullying in schools and presents school-based strategies that have been shown to
reduce school bullying (Slee, PT 2017).”
It has been implemented in over 40 schools in Australia and has been translated to be used in other
countries.
The students filled in a pre-survey and will complete a further survey in Term 3 once classes have
completed the series of lessons.
Students in the middle and senior classes have recently also completed a school generated online survey
to identify factors that impact on their wellbeing whilst at school. We look forward to analyzing the
responses and identify areas that need to be addressed to ensure that we can fulfill our commitment to
ensuring that every child feels safe, valued and connected!
National School Improvement Survey – Curtin University
All key stakeholders, students, parents and staff will get an opportunity of completing on line survey
shortly. This survey is to find out about the climate at THIS school. Further information will be provided
next term. We value your feedback – We want to provide you with an opportunity of having a say too!
Parent Workshop— WORKSHOP Wednesday 24 July (Week 1)
As outlined in the School Improvement Plan teachers will be participating in a series of Professional Learning workshops
focussing on STEM. As many parents have mentioned they are interested in gaining more information about STEM, a workshop
has been arranged on Wednesday 24 July – TERM 3 – WEEK 1!

interactive and FUN workshop!
