1. Red Maple Swamp
• The natural salt hay and red maple endemic is what attracted settlers here from Plymouth Rock in the 17th
century
• Hay fed their cattle and roofed their homes
2. Skiff Hill
• Runs alongside Nauset Marsh
• Streams, grassland, and the Atlantic
Ocean come together
• Diverse animal life: sea otters, seals,
birds
3. Fort Hill Overlook
• Barrier island in the distance
• Historic Edward Penniman house- a
French style manor.
• Edward Penniman because a whaler,
harvesting whale oil, ivory, and
spermaceti
