Baul • Baul is the most commonly known

category of Bangladeshi folk songs. • performed by hermits, followers of

Sufism.• simple words expressing songs with

deeper meanings involving creation, society, lifestyle and human emotions.• little musical support, the main carrier

the vocal.

Lalon songs• Best known of all folk songs and

the most import subgenre of Baul songs,• almost entirely attributed to

spiritual writer and composer, Lalon Fokir of Kushtia. • Is also known as “Baul Samrat”

BhatiyaliThese types of songs are generally sung by boatman. It is seen nearly all regions of Bangladesh, basically the riverside area.

Bhawaiya

• Actually this kind of songs are sung by the Coachman

• Specially Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Rangpur, and Pabna.

Jarigan• Jarigan sung as like as Charya by groups. • sung in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Faridpur.

Hason Raja•Devotional songs written by a

music composer by the name of Hason Raja • Sylhet, northeastern side of

Bangladesh near Assam• recently repopularised as dance

music.

instruments originally of her own.• Those instruments were used for folk music

Present Condition• The condition of folk song in our country is very

poor. • Now a day our rich traditional folk song inevitable

influenced by western music and culture.
