Thishandypillowcaseforatravel-sizepillowincorporatesapockettokeepthepillowforminplace.Thepillowcasefrontisaperfectplatformforembroideredembellishments.

1. BeginbyprintingfullsizetemplatesoftheembroiderydesignsandasingleinitialfromyourmonogramfontonFlorianiTemplateTearaway.Besuretoindicatethehorizontalandverticalcenterlinesoneachtemplate.Trimeachtemplatejustoutsidethedesignarea.Thetemplatesareespeciallyusefulifyouaremakingtheprojectwitha4”embroideryhoop;themaindesignhasbeenrotated45�soitfitswithinthesmallhoopwithoutagreatreductioninthedesignsize.

Thetemplatesarealsousefulforlocatingascriptinitialwithintheembroideredframe,sincematchingthecenterpointsoftheinitialandframedoesnotalwayscreateavisuallypleasingarrangement.

2. Cuta13”x20”rectangleforthepillow-casefrontanda13”x24”rectangleforthepillowcaseback.

3. CutapieceofFlorianiHeatNStaabout4”widerthanthepillowcasefabric,orbigenoughtofillalargehoop.Fusethestabilizertothefabricwrongsideatoneshortendofthepillowcasefrontsothestabilizerextends2”beyondthefabricatthesides.

(Theadditionalstabilizerallowshoopingnearthefabricedges.)

4. Witharemovablemarker,drawalineonthepillowcasefront5”fromthestabilizedshortend.Thisisthebaseline(notthecenterline)forthecentralembroidery.Alsodrawalinealongtheverticalcenterofthepillowcasefront.

5. Removetheprotectivepaperbackingandpositionthetemplatesonthemarkedfabric,usingthecenterlineandbaselineasguides.Thecentermotifsitsonthebaseline,whilethesidemotifsextend1/8”belowit.

6. Hoopthefabricatthefirstembroideryplacement.Usethemachinecontrolstopositiontheneedleoverthedesigncenterlines.

RemovetheTemplateTearawayandembroiderthedesign.

RememberTemplateTearawayisaPlacementaid,notastabilizer.Removeitbeforestitching.

12.Ontheembroideredendofthepillowcasefront,pressunder�”,then2”,tocreatethehem.Edgestitchthroughalllayerswitharegularstraightstitch,orsetthemachineforanentredeuxstitch,insertawingneedle,andstitchtheheminplace.

13.Laythepillowcasefrontonthepillowcaseback,rightsidestogether.Stitchthesidesandtheunfinishedendwitha�”seam.Useaserger,orsetthemachineforanovercastingstitchtofinishtheseamedges.

14.Turnthepillowcaserightsideout.Thefoldonthepillowcasebackwillliebetweenthefabriclayers.

15.Insertthepillowform,tuckingitinsidethepocketofthepillowcaseback.

7. Repeatfortheremainingfloralmotifs.Ifyouareusingalargehoop,itmaybepossibletostitchallthedesignswithoutrehooping.

8. Rehoopthefabricsothecentralfloralmotifiswithintheembroideryfield.Usethetemplateofthemonograminitialtopositionthemonogramwithintheembroideredframe.Locatetheneedleovertheletter’scenter,removetheTemplateTearaway,andstitchthemonogram.

9. Whenembroideryiscomplete,removethemarkingsandasmuchHeatNStaaspossible.Laytheembroideredfabricfacedownonathicktowelandcarefullypressfromthewrongside.

10.Setthesewingmachineforaregularstraightstitch.Ononeshortendofthepillowcaseback,turnunder¼”twiceandpress.Edgestitchthehem.

11.Fold6”ofthehemmededgetothewrongsideandpress.
