FLASH-S DIPPING SONARSpecialized surveillance and classificationsonar for helicopters and USVs
Smarter. Safer
The FLASH family has been selected by:French Navy - installed in the NFH90 ASW helicopterNorwegian Navy - installed in the NFH90 ASW helicopterSwedish Navy (FLASH-S)UAE Naval Forces - installed in the CougarhelicopterUK Royal Navy - installed in the Merlin ASWhelicopterUSA Navy - ALFS System (USA designation forFLASH) installed in the MH-60R, the principalASW/ASuW helicopter in USN service
A large installed base to build on world-wide in-service operational and training experience.
Combined medium frequency surveillance sonar with
high frequency ‘shadow’ classifier, FLASH-S provides
an unrivalled capability against small, slow moving or
stationary underwater targets.

PEDIGREE
ANTI SUBMARINE WARFARE
• PedigreeDeveloped from FLASH dipping sonar, selected by the world’s major navies.
• Proven capabilityFully developed with sea-proven capability against small targets in difficult environments.
• Effective target classificationSteerable classifier with flexible aperture, tilt and gain control.
• Short dip cycle timeFast, fully automatic reeling machine for minimum time in the dip and rapid deployment.
• Mission EffectivenessProvides great operational flexibility surveillance and classification in one mission.
• System AdaptabilityAvailable as a stand-alone sonar or fully integrated with sonobuoy processing.

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS
Surveillance sonar Choice of frequencies around 20kHz with 20% bandwidth
Classification sonar Frequency greater than 250kHz
Classification sonar Steerable over 360°, range resolution <50cm
Pulse modes FM, CW, BPSK, COMBO (FM & CW together)
Transmission power Supplied from the helicopter, unlimited number of pings
Transmission modes Omni or 30° sector, 360° or 15° for classifier
Slim, compact submersible unit, robust and hydrodynamically efficient
Acoustic processor incorporates latest technology from MPA and helo programmes
Extensive analysis tools for the operator with advanced HMI
OPERATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS Combined surveillance and target classification sonar within a single submersible unit, provides great missionflexibility to the operator against small targets in difficult water environments.
The high frequency classifier produces shadow images of the target thus enabling short range classification ofsmall slow moving, stationary or bottomed targets and suspicious objects.
