MEMPHIS ANNUAL CONFERENCE
United Methodists from throughout West Tennessee and Western Kentucky will gather June 4-6 at Collierville United Methodist Church in Memphis for the 2017 Memphis Annual Conference led by our Bishop, William (Bill) T. McAlilly. This year’s theme is “Sent to Serve God and Neighbor”. Each year clergy members and lay members attend conference sessions to participate in worship and bible study, hear reports from conference
agencies and ministry teams, and to conduct the business of the annual conference. Lay delegates from Covington FUMC attending are Helene Kramer, Beth Lockhart, Melissa Mitchell and Philip Sigler. Rev. Wade Cox will participate as the clergy delegate. Anyone is welcome to attend but only delegates can vote. Our connectional system is a unique aspect of our church and an important part of our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Please be in prayer as we prepare.
Each year at annual conference a missional offering is taken. This year three conferences are partnering with the East Congo Episcopal Area of the UMC in Africa for Congo Women Arise that is an initiative addressing the needs as a result of sexual violence. It will be named the Mama Lynn Center after Lynn McAlilly, wife of Bishop McAlilly, and will become a life changing place of hope for women to receive care and find restoration. A team from the conference will be traveling to East Congo in July to assist in the construction of this women’s center. Our communion offering for June 4 will go towards this effort.
For more information and a schedule of events, visit the Memphis Conference website at www.memphis-umc.net. Live streaming of the conference will be available at www.memphis-umc.net/stream. You can also download an app for the Memphis Conference at the Apple App Store or on Google Play.
Peace and Grace,
Wade

Bread of Life Food Pantry helps to feed the physical hunger in our community, as well as an opportunity to feed spiritual hunger. Patrons and volunteers join together in praise, worship, prayer and devotion to begin each Food Pantry Saturday, and each Saturday a request is made by a patron for a Bible. There is a need for large print Bibles and children's Bibles. If you happen to have a gently used Bible that you would like to donate to meet this need,
please bring them to the church office. For more information, please contact Liz Newman at 901-476-9694.
