Cover  Letter    

This  semester  I  had  to  write  multiple  papers  for  my  English  106  class,  and  for  my  

final  project  I  was  to  revise  two  of  my  papers,  a  photo  essay,  and  create  a  portfolio  cover  

letter.  I  learned  quite  a  few  things  by  taking  this  introductory  writing  class.  Some  of  which  

were:  how  to  write  a  film  critique,  how  to  use  logical  fallacies,  how  to  properly  cite  sources  

using  MLA  format,  and  lastly  I  tweaked  my  punctuation  skills.    When  I  got  to  look  at  my  

assignments,  after  they  had  been  graded,  I  tried  to  find  which  areas  I  needed  to  work  on  the  

most.  For  the  assignment  A2,  about  the  movie  Grizzly  Man,  I  noticed  that  I  for  a  few  of  my  

paragraphs  I  was  having  trouble  wrapping  up  my  ideas  and  getting  a  solid  transition  into  

the  next  paragraph’s  argument.  I  went  back  and  tried  to  figure  out  how  I  could  keep  a  

smooth  flow  between  ideas  and  paragraphs.  Another  thing  I  did  was  went  back  and  broke  

apart  a  lot  of  contractions  that  I  used.    

The  next  assignment  was  the  photo  essay  about  the  diversity  of  student  life  here  on  

Purdue  University’s  campus.  The  way  I  chose  to  do  this  essay  was  to  treat  it  as  if  it  was  a  

picture  tour  of  Purdue  and  I  was  the  tour  guide.  So  we  got  started  over  by  Krannert  School  

of  Management  and  Follett’s  Book  Store  where  there  is  a  Purdue  University  sign  and  

worked  our  way  Northwest  through  campus  until  we  eventually  reached  Ross-­‐Ade  

stadium.  The  thing  that  I  needed  to  fix  when  I  got  my  graded  essay  back,  was  the  fact  that  I  

did  not  have  a  set  introduction  or  conclusion.  So  I  went  back  and  tried  to  explain  the  

concept  of  my  essay  a  little  better,  and  included  a  closing  statement  to  wrap  up  my  project.  

Hopefully  I  used  the  skills  that  I  learned  in  this  course  properly  in  order  to  better  my  

papers,  and  with  constant  practice,  I  can  continue  to  improve  my  writing.
