In 1847 Frederick Douglasspublished the first issue of theNorth Star newspaper, an anti-slavery newspaper.

In 1941, the Atlanta UrbanLeague won the right for Blackwomen to be addressed as“Mrs.” in predominantly whitenewspapers.

On May 1, 1867, HowardUniversity (Washington, D.C.)was chartered by Congress asone of the earliest institution ofhigher learning for AfricanAmericans. The Dred Scott decision was

You must usethe female vs the male, and themale vs the female. You mustalso have your White servantsand overseers distrust all Blacks, but it is necessary that yourslaves trust and depend on us.They must love, respect, andonly trust us.

Gentlemen, these Kits are yourKeys to control. Use them. Have

your wives and children usethem, never miss the opportuni-ty. If used intensely for one year, the slaves themselves willremain perpetually distrustful.

Thank you, gentlemen.

Blacks, Black History andthe Republican Party woesfrom page 7“right” Blacks on your staff. This is where the party has beenfound woefully inadequate.Republicans tend to want to hireand showcase Blacks that makethem feel “comfortable” versusBlacks who have credibilitywithin the Black community andwho also know what the hellthey are doing.

Republicans constantly allowliberals to brand them as a partyof racists and yet they refuse toput a strategy in place to refutethese same old tired liberal dia-tribes. A lie that is oft repeatedbecomes the truth. If they spentthe same amount of vigor andmoney fighting liberal lies asthey are in their attempts to sueme over initiatives that I havecreated to benefit the party, wewould be getting north of 25percent of the Black vote inpresidential elections.

We all know the Democraticplay book; but the party is not

serious enough about the Blackvote to devote the time or moneyto challenge these liberal lies.As I always say, when all is saidand done; there is more said thandone.

Republicans need only talkabout what they have done late-ly with the hiring of very talent-ed Black staffers; and then toeffectively communicate thatmessage directly to the public.

We all know things likeRepublican President AbrahamLincoln freed the slaves, yada, yada, yada, but in the immortalwords of Janet Jackson, “whathave you done for me lately?”Well, I am so glad she asked

that question. Last month, Iwrote a column excoriating theDemocratic Party for their lackof diversity when it came to hir-ing congressional staffers.

Let’s take a look at theCongressional Republicans havedone just in this month alone rel-ative to staff hiring.Just check out this list of highlevel Blacks who work forRepublicans in Congress.Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) haslong time aide JenniferDeCasper as his chief of staff;Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.)just promoted Brennen Brittonfrom state director in Kansas tochief of staff in D.C.; D.J.Jordan is communications direc-tor for Senator James Lankford(R-Okla.); Senator Thom Tillis(R-N.C.) just hired CourtneyTemple as his legislative direc-tor and that’s just on the Senateside. On the House side, Speaker of

the House, Paul Ryan just pro-moted his budget committeestaffer, Jonathan Burke to be hischief of staff. No Black has everserved in this position for eitherparty in the history of the U.S.Congressman Steve Chabot (R-Ohio) has Stacy Barton as his

A Martin Luther King Jr. Day messagefrom Greenlining Realty USA founder,Lamell McMorris ... from page 7is it's somewhere in the middle, and the nuances of this won't beknown until the conversationsbegin with the resources in handto make it all happen. What I doknow is that in 2016 Chicagosaw 796 homicides. I do knowthat in 2016, in Chicago, some-one was shot every 2 hours, andmurdered every 11. I do knowthat neighborhoods matter, thatcommunity matters, that livingsomewhere that people haveinvested in because they thinkyou matter…. Matters. This wonderful holiday honor-

ing Dr. Martin Luther King issignificant because it begs us toreflect on our personal role infulfilling Dr. King's dream. Italso comes at a time of year, inearly January, when we are col-lectively embarking on a freshstart in a new year. So today Iask, how can we, as a communi-ty, make a fresh start in buildingnew pathways to economicequality and opportunity inurban neighborhoods that stillbear the scars of decades of neg-lect? I ask the same from myself, and my company as we look for-ward to development projects in2017. I look forward to answer-

ing this calling together. There ismuch to be completed. Let's go.

Do you know this in Black History?

chief of staff.I know most of these staffers

and find them not only to bewell respected within Congress, but they also have great standingwithin the Black community. They don’t view their Blacknessas a burden to be borne; butrather as an asset to be cher-ished.If the Republican Party is sup-

posed to be so racist, can some-one please explain to me whythey have more Blacks in deci-sion-making positions on theircongressional Senate staffs thanDemocrats?

When it comes to the Blackcommunity, Republicans havebecome as the sounding brass ora tinkling cymbal; full of soundand fury, but signifying nothing.I will continue to be a one-manwrecking crew on my quest tototally destroy and defeat liber-alism. It would be nice to havemy party join me in my quest, but in the immortal words of thereformer, Martin Luther; “I can-not and will not recant anything, for to go against conscience isneither right nor safe. Here Istand, I can do no other, so helpme God, Amen.”
