PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Rearing broilers is a form of animal husbandry
that requires careful control and close follow-up.
The poultry is very sensitive to even small
changes to their environment. It is therefore
better to rear them in closed houses, where it is
possible to optimise the conditions in regards to
both climate, water and feed.
To be able to reach the best possible production
results it is of utmost importance that they are
provided with daily human supervision and
control. An advanced climate system, which
automatically takes care of the indoor climate in
the house, is, however, a great help for the
producer. The system should provide an
overview of important climate parameters in the
house and instantly report if the conditions
deviate from what is desired.
An equivalent production control system can
control feeding, water and lights. It can therefore
be used to provide feed according to the birds'
needs, monitor the water supply to ensure it
works as it should, and make sure the lights turn
on and off according to the set program. A fully
automated system can manage the feed weigher,
feed auger, bowl or chain feeding, water meter
and drinking nipples. It can also record the
consumption of feed, water and energy, and the
poultry weigher can record the animals' growth
and uniformity.
What is considered optimal conditions for the
relevant broiler breed is usually defined by the
broiler suppliers, and the system uses this data as
a basis for control and monitoring. Such a
climate and production control system allows for
a close monitoring and improved efficiency of
the broiler production.

1 FarmOnline Management System
The FarmOnline management system is an extension of the SKOV house computers that regulates and
monitors production in the poultry house. The system comes with a wide array of functions that facilitate
day-to-day operation, analysis and documentation, and which makes the production data available in a
manageable form.
The management system consists of the following programs:
FarmOnline Explorer (program installed on a pc with LAN connection to the house computers)
FarmOnline Mobile App (smartphone access to data from the house computers)
FarmOnline EPM (internet access via browser to data from the house computers)
Figure 2: Schematic drawing of the FarmOnline management system
The basis for the system is direct data access (real time).
The current data from the houses is compared to
reference values, and colour indications display
how these current values compare to the references.
This provides for an excellent opportunity to
quickly evaluate the current production status and
for immediate follow-up on any deviations.
Data is stored in the system and is available for
advanced analysis and reporting tools.
Reference Values
The behaviour and development of broilers is, to a great extent, decided by their genetics. There is recognised data for feed and water consumption, expected growth and the expected amount of dead birds for all types of poultry. We call all these well-known numbers reference values. The FarmOnline system uses a great number of different references taken from all large poultry producers.

2 FarmOnline Explorer
The computer program FarmOnline Explorer gathers, manages and presents data and key values from the
individual farm. With functions such as climate monitoring, alarm log and batch control, the program
provides calculations for the farm manager's daily overview and analyses.
Growth and Uniformity
Growth is shown together with the broiler's
expected weight on the individual days.
Another point of focus is the birds' uniformity. This
is calculated using the poultry weigher and
compared to a coefficient of variation.
Mortality
The poultry mortality is calculated using the
number of gathered dead animals. The number of
dead animals is entered daily in the house computer
or in FarmOnline Explorer on the office computer.
Feed and Water
The daily feed consumption is recorded
automatically using a feed weigher or entered in the
DOL 539 house computer.
The water consumption is measured using a water
meter.
The water/feed relation is calculated and displayed
with a colour coded status.

FCR and PEF
Calculations using various data provides a gathered
idea of the production efficiency.
FCR: feed conversion (calculated using feed
consumption and animal weight).
PEF: production efficiency (calculated using FCR,
the animal weight and mortality).
Graphic Display
There is an array of graphic standard views for
climate and production data, but the user can also
create their own graphs.
The house and batch can be compared in the same
graph.
3 FarmOnline Enterprise Performance Management (EPM)
FarmOnline EPM is a tool for general analysis of production data from broiler production and is especially
intended for use by central management.
FarmOnline EPM is used through an internet browser and allows for using a computer with internet access
to see production data for farms in different locations. The production results can in this way be compared
between farms and batches.

3.1 Many Possibilities for Reports
The reports are interactive and it is easy to navigate between farms, houses and key values.
Reports can be created using different key values.
Reference values for a set animal type and the current colour status for a value can be included in
reports.
Graphs provide a quick overview for use when benchmarking.
Reports and graphs can be exported to various file formats and can be printed as well.
The data is gathered automatically each day and saved to a central SQL-database.
Data can also be entered manually from production houses that do not have SKOV's climate and
production computers.
It is possible to import data from other systems to FarmOnline EPM.
The reports allows for analyses on the following levels:
Company Level
• Summary of production results for the
head office.
• Comparison of the farms.
• Comparison of active or finished
batches.
Farm Level
• Documentation of production results for
the houses and each batch.
• Comparison of batches between different
houses on the same farm.

Data Export
Data and graphs can be exported to other file
formats for further analyses and presentation
(pdf, xls, rtf, mht and images).
Data Import
Data from farms that do not use SKOV
systems can be imported to the PEM system
using an Excel sheet (created by SKOV).
