1978 – In an international competition, the Microcirculatory Systems Research Group (Pat, Dave, Irv, Fred)

at the U of Missouri was awarded the Intravital Microscopy Laboratory (all equipment in background)

which was developed at California Institute of Technology and was unique in the world.

2004 – Colleagues (Mark, Toni, Ruth, Dave) at Edinburgh Castle (Scotland) while attending the

annual meeting of the Association for Medical Education in Europe

2008 – Betsey’s graduation with honors from U of Michigan Law School – Dave, Betsey, Jill, Matt

Indiana, to see Santa, but didn’t actually meet until 1965 at Indiana University in Bloomington.

2000 – A toast on the “Old Bridge” after a symposium in Heidelberg, Germany, celebrating Prof Michael

Steinhausen’s 70th Birthday. Prof Steinhausen is 3rd from left, then Dave, Betsey and Frau Steinhausen.

Dave gave an address at the symposium. Betsey was between a summer studying art in Florence, Italy,

and a year at Freiberg University, Germany, studying philosophy (taught in German).

Later as Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Medical Science she hosted Dave in Beijing in 1987 and

1999 and then both Dave and Jill in 2011.

receiving an honorary doctoral degree for which Dave had nominated him.

2002 – Hazelwood Junior High – To remember a classmate, who had died in an accident, Matt

(back row, right), as student body president, organized fund raising for this memorial bench

at the Louisville Zoo. The students held a small dedication at the end of the school year.
