• 40% of all energy is used to heat and cool buildings
• 39% of energy leakage passes through the wall
• EIFS provides continuous air barrier and a continuous layer of insulation
• EIFS reduces this leakage significantly

Requirements for fresh mortar:
• Good workability for manual and mechanical application
• Long open time
Requirements for hardened mortar:
• Good adhesion to polystyrene boards and other substrates (concrete, brick, old stucco)
• High flexibility and impact strength
• Good vapor permeability
• Hydrophobic properties (water repellency)
• Good weathering resistance
STRINGENT REQUIREMENTS FOR MORTAR AS THE CRITICAL COMPONENT OF EIFS
Exterior Insulation and Finish SystemsMessrs. Hepburn & Tessier, November 2009, Slide 18
WACKER’S VINNAPAS® POLYMERS DELIVER ALL FOUR PERFORMANCE FEATURES
• Improved adhesion to all substrates (polystyrene, polyiso-C, concrete, bricks, old stucco etc.)
• Increased flexibility and improved impact resistance
• Excellent hydrophobicity• Durability and long-term
performance
WACKER’s VINNAPAS® products give EIFS stability, flexibility and durability

Savings during the last 50 years reached with EIFS in Germany:
~ 7,950,000,000 sq.ft. installed EIFS
~ 63,660,000,000 gallons Savings in heating oil ~ 670,000,000 tons Reduction in CO2 ~ $174,000,000,000 Lower heating costs (oil price 2007)
THE GERMAN EXPERIENCE
Source: Market study “Quo vadis WDVS 2007-2012“
• EIFS has been a well established and approved building method for several decades.
• EIFS is ecological since it reduces residential energy consumption and CO2 emissions significantly.
• EIFS is economical since it reduces heating costs significantly with reasonable expenditures.

EIFS POTENTIAL CONTRIBUTION TO LEED® PROJECTS
• U.S. Green Building Council has developed Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating System.
• Points for materials, construction methods and systems that minimize a building’s impact on the environment.
• EIFS can contribute significantly to attainment of:
• LEED® Energy and Atmosphere Credit 1 – via air barrier and broad range of R-Values
• LEED® Material and Resource Credits 1 and 2 – via installation of EIFS to existing structure and building reuse

WACKER‘S TARGETS FOR THE SOUTHERN U.S.
Our Targets
• We want to promote EIFS • We want to promote a “System Mindset” for EIFS
• We want to promote quality awareness in the field of EIFS and dry-mix mortars
We are looking forward to discussions …
• … with architects, construction companies & specifiers on EIFS and trends in exterior wall insulation.
• … with authorities on system quality and norms • … with individuals who want to enter the EIFS field
