THE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Trish Aamoth
It’s hard to know where to begin: 2019 LWML
Convention – $2,100,000 Mission Goal, New
Mission Grants, New Officers, 2019 District
Retreat, 2020 Joint Event, Zone Events,
Leadership Workshops. Serving the Lord with
Gladness obviously does NOT have an end date!
The women in purple just keep on going to the
next event, the next project!
I find it easier to group things together in
somewhat of a chronological order, so I’ll begin
with completed projects:
COMPLETED...
2019 LWML Convention Co-Host
WELL DONE, 2019 Host Committee and 2019

descriptions! It was a great convention in a
beautiful setting! Thank you! Thank you! Thank
you! Special thanks to Host Committee Chair
Bunnie Koelsch and all the HUNDREDS of Host
Committee leaders!
FINAL PREPARATIONS...
2019 District Retreat – Just five weeks away!
Registration ends August 31!
IN PROGRESS...
LEAD-Leadership Exploration and
Development Workshops. Currently tw o
workshops are scheduled for this fall:
-Multi-zone event on Saturday, October 5 at
Christ the King, Orlando for Greater Orlando,
Saint Petersburg, Space Coast, Sun Coast, Tampa
and Winter Haven zones. More in this Evangel.
-Part of the Region 2 Lay Leadership Summit on
Friday evening and Saturday, November 15 and
16. This will include all of Region 2, which
encompasses East Central Georgia, First Coast,
North Central Florida and Tallahassee zones.
We do hope to get at least one more scheduled.
INITIAL PLANNING...
2020 FL-GA District
Convention in conjunction
with President’s Convocation, to be
called the 2020 EQUIP
CONFERENCE.
Save-the-Date: September 24-26, 2020,
Buena Vista Palace, Lake Buena Vista, Fla. –
Right across from Downtown Disney. Very first
planning session was held August 7; first full
planning committee meeting will be October 4.
This is going to be very different from other
LWML Events, but it affords us, the women of
the LCMS, an exciting opportunity to meet with
pastors, called workers, educators, and laity.
Donna Pyle is already booked to be the Bible
Study Leader; keynote speaker is not confirmed.
We will be involved in all the various committees
needed to put on an event for 1,500 people. More
information will be available in the Winter
Evangel!
I know that all of us are busy in our own
congregations, but it is my sincere hope that
more of us LWMLers will take advantage of zone
and district events, as well as events such as the
Lay Leadership Summits. To worship, work and
fellowship with our sisters, and brothers, of the
LCMS inspires and enriches all of us as we labor
in the harvest field.

VP COMMUNICATIONS Pat Powell
I’m excited to say that the first LEAD training
workshop will be Sat., October 5, hosted by the
Greater Orlando Zone. This event is open to
anyone within driving distance, and will be held
at Christ the King Lutheran Church in
Orlando.
The LEAD Team of Trish Aamoth, Pastor
Meseke, Jamie Bass and I had the opportunity to
give a preview of the training at our March
Board of Directors meeting. Ask your Zone
President…we all had fun with it, and while it
does give useful information, it’s definitely not
dull!
We’re hoping to schedule a couple
more dates in other areas of the
District before the holidays. Watch
the LWML Florida-Georgia District
Facebook page and website for
updates.
One thing that LEAD training addresses is the
challenge of how to get new people involved, and
how to broaden the age-range of our active
members, something most of our churches need.
Regional LEAD Events Sat., Oct. 5 9:15 a.m.—3:00 p.m.
Christ the King Lutheran Church
4962 S Apopka Vineland Rd, Orlando
This is a multi-zone event including Greater Orlando, St.
Petersburg, Space Coast, Suncoast, Tampa and Winter
Haven zones. The event will include opening worship with communion, lunch, 2-3 LEAD sessions
and a closing devotion. There will be a 30-minute break-out for zones to conduct zone business if
they choose. Registration: $10. RSVP to lwmlloisford@yahoo.com by September 30.
Fri., Nov. 15—Sat., Nov. 16
“Piggyback” Event with Region 2 Lay Leadership Summit
Abiding Savior Lutheran Church
Gainesville, FL
Zones encouraged to attend this event are: East Central Georgia, First Coast, North Central
Florida and Tallahassee. The Lay Leadership Summits are a wonderful opportunity for all lay
leaders to come together to share, learn and encourage each other. Our LEAD team will present at
least two workshops. The location may not be the most convenient for many, but it will be well
worth the effort to attend. There is no cost to attend. Information will be sent to all congregations
in Region 2.
LEAD events are open to ALL WOMEN of the FL-GA District LCMS. Officers and
leaders at the congregational and zone levels are especially encouraged to attend. Topics covered
in these sessions include: Mission Grants-application process and selection; engaging and
retaining volunteers; meeting management; how to use technology; and leadership styles.

FINANCIAL SECRETARY Linda Peters
Based on the Biblical account of the widow’s mite (Luke 21:1-4), the Mite Box is in-
tended for regular contributions of “mites” – offerings above and beyond the support
given to the congregation and the Synod. Mite Box contributions amount to millions of
dollars that fund district and national mission grants, and implement the LWML
program. At the LWML Convention in Mobile, the delegates voted to adopt a
$2.1 million mite goal. 25% of the mites we collect in the district will go toward this
goal. Our LWML FL-GA District mite goal is $180,000 and through July 31 our mites
total $96,904.70. W e have until June 30, 2020 to reach our goal so keep those m ites
coming.
At the LWML Convention, a new mite box was revealed. The new mite boxes are available
through the LWML Catalog, and/or online. They are free, but you will need to pay shipping.
I hope that most of you are planning
on attending the retreat in September.
We will have an offering on Sunday
morning that will go to our District
Mission Grants. If you cannot attend,
send your offering with someone who
is attending so that you will feel like
you are a part of the retreat.
See you in September!

The End of a Season
VP MISSION SERVICE Deaconess Liz Borth
I grew up in the Midwest, where changing of the
seasons is quite evident. Summer has always
been my favorite season because of relaxed
schedules and fireflies and swimming pools and
camping under the stars and the smell of fresh-
cut grass. Perhaps that is why Florida isn’t such a
bad place to live year round! Change of season,
in a different sense, is also the changes in life.
Most of us may remember each stage – puberty,
first love, marriage, motherhood, grandparent,
retirement – with a variety of emotions.
As a child, my love of the summer season and my
delight in celebrating my birthday mixed
together for a sad drink. An early September
birthday means the end of summer and the start
of school. No more carefree days; back to routine
and repetition.
As an adult in Florida, my early September
birthday doesn’t mean the end of summer as
much as an end to a season of life. Still, no
matter what the calendar says about age, spring,
summer, fall or winter, the season for learning
never ends. There is never an end to sharing.
Never an end to serving. Never an end to God’s
love for all.
Mission opportunities are never ending in the
LWML. Mission service with a Thrivent action
team serves those both near and far from home.
Mission service in your church could happen
with an anniversary celebration of Gospel
sharing over many years. Mission service to your
neighbor or friend is as easy as a cup of coffee
together.
We LWML ladies know that “mission” is simply
establishing relationships. We reach out with
Christ’s love, grace, mercy and forgiveness to
others…it is the mission Jesus designed for us.
The end of September is the end of the summer
season. It is a time to reestablish relationships
with LWML friends in the Florida
-Georgia District by going on
retreat to Lake Yale. Retreat will
be a time for mission service, as
we make sun dresses for young girls in tropical
climates, and as we bring our gifts from the heart
of school supplies for children heading back to
school. For every end, there is a new beginning,
and for every one of us who appreciate the new
beginning as an LWML missionary, that new
beginning is life with Jesus. See you in Leesburg!
For a complete list of Gifts from the Heart
donation items and Servant Event
materials needed, see page 18.

MISSION GRANTS DISBURSED
Evangel—Fall 2019 Page 7
VP MISSION GRANTS Gayle Caruso
As summer turns toward fall, we are showcasing
two of our Mission Grants that are helping our
children out in the world.
POBLO Ministries have seen the need to
develop a resource for the church to support
high school students. High school is the real
time in which Christian youth need to face the
challenges of living in a multi-cultural world.
“Preparing Christian Youth for Faithful-
ness to Christ in a Multi-cultural World”
will serve to prevent high school youth from
considering dating and marrying those of anoth-
er religion in their college years. This project is
designed to help save our youth from spiritual
disaster, by keeping them faithful to Christ,
including being faithful to Him through their
marriages.
Lutheran Special Education Minis-
tries (LSEM) is using their grant to
purchase appropriate curriculum,
materials and equipment to support
New Beginnings for Children
with Special Needs. The teacher/
consultants identify the students with learning
needs in the school settings and develop an
individualized plan that incorporates and uses
the student’s learning profile. LSEM believes all
children should have the opportunity to receive
a Christian education, regardless of their learn-
ing abilities or backgrounds.
Please keep these grants in your prayers and
supported with your mites.
What is LEAD?

pastors and called workers, LEAD is training

Convention Notes
from our Young
Women Reps
God blessed me with the opportunity to attend
the LWML National Convention as a Young
Women’s Representative. The weekend was full
of fun, friends, and praises to the Lord! As a
YWR, you are given ample opportunities to
network. I was challenged in this aspect as I
normally do not approach strangers to start
conversations, but when you present the
opportunity as a challenge – a scavenger hunt
– then my competitive side comes out. I spoke
to ladies with purple hats, ladies with large
shoes, 1st time attendees, volunteers, pastors’
wives, missionaries, and even the National
LWML President (at the time), Patti Ross!
My favorite event of the weekend was helping
with Gifts from the Heart. I greeted ladies as
their charter buses arrived on site and collected
the donations (Arch books, baby kits, sheet
sets, hygiene kits, bibles, quilts, and gift cards)
for Gifts from the Heart. The YWRs helped
organize all the donations to be shipped to their
respective recipients. The preliminary count for
Gifts from the Heart included over 8,000 Arch
books, over 1,000 hygiene kits, and almost
$30,000 in gift card donations! The generosity
of LWMLers always amazes me and reminds
me of how God uses all of us to collectively
make a colossal impact in the world.
Huge thank you to the Florida-Georgia District
for sponsoring me to attend my first LWML
National Convention! I can’t wait to attend the
2021 National Convention in Lexington, KY; I
hope to see you all there!
—Kendra Schuettpelz
I am deeply honored that I got to be one of
the three Young Women to represent the
Florida-Georgia District at the National
Convention in Mobile, Ala. this summer.
Thank you for your support, encouragement
and prayers. It was an unforgettable
experience to say the least! As your YWR, I
felt like royalty with the special ribbon on my
name badge, golden pin and luncheon
sessions with the president and other
keynote speakers. Along with being a
participant in all of the programming, I also
got to serve at the convention as well. I was
in awe of the generosity of God’s people when
I helped sort the Gifts from the Heart. We
collected and sorted 8,436 Arch books, 926
Bibles, 1,161 hygiene kits, 214 quilts, 262
sheet sets, 228 baby care kits and $33,630 in
gift cards. In Praise to the LORD! I also
helped coordinate the district photos. That
was a fun adventure because each district
had contagious enthusiasm as they waited to
be corralled to the next staging location. It
was so much fun interacting with almost
everyone in attendance. The LWML is chock-
full of wonderful and God-fearing women; I
am blessed to call so many of them friends.
Thank you again for the unforgettable
opportunity to serve as your YWR.
—Jamie Bass
Page 10 Evangel—Fall 2019
There are simply no adequate words to describe
how uplifting it was... there were over 3,000 in
attendance at this convention but it didn’t feel
like these were just people who get together for a
concert, and half of them are as lost as you are!
Every single person I met had an amazing story
to tell and I am confounded and awe struck... I
can’t believe I became a pastor without knowing
such organizations and support systems
existed... I am compelled to think that should
anyone attend such a rally, it would be a
necessary conversion experience... you cannot be
but inspired and I thank God the bishop
approached me to give me this opportunity and
‘volunteer’ me as Counselor for the English
District. When it was put upon me, I thought,
‘okay... another responsibility’... only to realize
this is one of the most intense blessings I have
received in my life! Praise God!
So was the theme of our Convention! It brings
tears to my eyes just thinking about it and how
some just don’t know about it and may never
experience the joy that must be produced in the
soul who attends. We don’t have many aha-
moments in our lives and this was one of them; it
also dawned on me that this must be why we
have so many... so many faithful women in our
churches... it does make me wonder about the
LLL in the good old
days but something
tells me it still
wouldn’t compare.
This wasn’t a typical
church convention
either... this should be
how every other
convention is focused! It is ALL mission focused.
To give you a glimpse, they have raised over
$100 million for mission in 77 years... praise
God! I should say, “we” because they really do
get the church involved, but they are so
organized and so mission minded, I almost still
can’t believe it. There were 81 fantastic mission
proposals, 31 that were brought to the floor, and
21 we believe we can raise money to support with
a budget of $2.1 million! Praise God! But you put
a significant body of a whole synod into one
room, I really shouldn’t be so surprised. It’s only
what I’ve been preaching on for ten years and
what we’ve been taught to believe our whole
lives... but to be given the gift of sight is a true
blessing and strengthening for the soul.
Praise God from Whom all blessings flow! To
God alone be the glory but I praise my dear
sisters in Christ of the LWML! God bless you!

COUNSELOR’S CORNER JR. COUNSELOR—Rev. Paul Meseke
As I look ahead toward LWML Sunday, I love
the passage from Luke about if we have a little
tiny faith (the size of a mustard seed), we can
move all the obstacles in our Christian way. “If
you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you
can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and
planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you” (Luke
17:6 NIV). I hope you will join me in praying
away the mulberry trees (obstacles) that might
get in our way as we move toward the ministries
we have pledged to assist in their mission.
I pray for the students preparing for the pastoral
ministry and all church worker students
preparing for their ministries. Also for God’s
providing for their needs beyond our gifts of
scholarships. And that God would remove all
obstacles from their training for their called
ministries.
I was a recipient of the Food and Clothing Co-
Op at the Fort Wayne Seminary, and I thank
God for the generosity of our church body to
have supported my family in this way. It’s a
hand-up that is greatly appreciated, so I
personally thank you for supporting the
seminary families in this way. This is an obstacle
removed, with our mites: quarters, dimes,
nickels, pennies and yes, checks.
We probably all know someone whose children
have true difficulty in school. What a joy to be
able to give aid to New Beginnings for Children
with Learning Needs to help students requiring
additional assistance to remain in Lutheran
Schools. Pray that the learning obstacles can be
removed and our grant be blessed with
abundance.
The next obstacles sound similar: to help
children to attend and be nourished with the
Gospel of Christ and the physical need to eat.
Jesus fed many people and they listened to Him.
What a joy we have to allow the obstacles of life
to be removed so others might also hear the
Gospel.
To give those without resources the opportunity
to be given a loving Christian education is what
we would wish for all children, and
with the Infinite Blessings Scholarship
Fund, we are making this a reality for
those who otherwise would not be able
to have this opportunity.
We are blessed to have Lutheran
Counseling Services and the services they can
provide to the church, parishioners, and church
professionals alike. To make their services more
available and an increased awareness of what
they can do for all of us is great. The obstacle
removed is making their services even more
available. This blessing will benefit individuals
and the church at large.
Sometimes the obstacle to remove is “HOW.”
The Community Food Pantry (Sanford, Fla) is
meeting people where their needs are and
attaching the Gospel of forgiveness and life to
food. How exciting that together, with our mites,
we are giving such amazing support to missional
ministries.
The USA is the new mission outreach, and New
Missionaries to America will make us aware of
the missionaries and the many types of missions
spreading the Gospel to people in our
communities. We might be surprised to see they
are in our backyards. Together we are removing
the “not knowing” with available information
concerning these missions. We pray for this
ministry and all of them so Christ WILL be
known by even more people.
I truly am honored to walk beside the women of
the LWML Florida-Georgia District. In you, I
see true, pure faith in God providing. Obstacles?
Not with God on our side. Together we will
watch our mites be used by God and see
miraculous ministry happen. You all have taught
me more in a short period of time concerning
mission-mindedness than a lifetime has taught
me. I am humbled to be a part of the LWML and
honored to walk with you and do God’s work
among you and with you. With faith, God will
remove the obstacles, so the Gospel WILL be
proclaimed.

ATLANTA ZONE Janet Brossett—President
On Saturday, April 6th, 2019, Lutheran Church of the Redeemer hosted the Atlanta Zone Spring
Rally in Columbus ,Ga. Forty women in attended. representing 14 societies in our zone.
The theme for the rally was I am making everything new (Revelation 2:15), and just as an ugly
worm is transformed into a beautiful butterfly, so the Lord cleanses our sinful souls and makes us
clean and beautiful.
Renee Kroll, Vice President of Spiritual Growth, opened with a devotion, and Janet Brossett, our
newly-elected zone president, conducted the business portion of the meeting.
Our guest speaker was Kasey McClure, who does ministry work in her program called 4Sarah. She
spoke about the devastation and destructiveness of sex trafficking. While her talk was informative,
it was also very disturbing to hear about the issue that is plaguing our country, state and city. After
her talk, the women assembled spa bags for her to share with the women and girls she meets in her
ministry.
The rally closed with a worship service and a dedication of the Gifts from the Heart.
