    Directions to the hotel and conference venues

    (Brussels/Waterloo)

    General information on your travel and this note This note contains directions on how to reach the IBIS hotel and the main meeting venues. In case you need directions to other access points to the EFUF, please contact rik.de.vreese@vub.ac.be. In case of emergency, call mobile +32 485 36 00 78. More information on local travel in and around Brussels is available on http://efuf2015.org/practical-information/local-travel-to-the-conference-venues/. The conference days end with an excursion and/or dinner. We will provide connections to public transport. Indications on this are included in the programme.

    Tuesday 9th of June & Friday 12th of June - Hotel IBIS Waterloo & Tennis Club Waterloo

    From Brussels-National or Charleroi (Brussels-South) airport

    The fastest and most convenient way to reach the IBIS hotel is by taxi (75 EUR from Brussels-National airport, 100 EUR from Charleroi airport). Both trips will take around 30 mins (depending on the traffic).

    However, it is feasible to take the train from Brussels-National airport (option D + A or option D + B below) or a coach from Charleroi airport (option F + A or option F + B below).

    From Brussels-Midi/Zuid railway station

    By local city bus W or 365a: this busses link IBIS hotel with Brussels-Zuid/Midi railway station in 45 minutes. The bus stop Petit Paris is around the corner of the IBIS Waterloo. This bus stop is one stop further than the central square (bus stop Waterloo Eglise) in Waterloo. Travel time is 45 minutes depending on the traffic. See option B below.

    By train: the train is more comfortable than the bus, but you have to walk 1.5 km from the railway station to the hotel (see directions below). See option A below.

    By taxi: the taxi rank is indicated in the station

    A. By train from Brussels-Midi/Zuid station, Brussels-Central station, or Brussels-Noord/Nord station (25 minutes from Brussels-Zuid/Midi, 35 minutes from Brussels-No(o)rd + 20 minutes 1.5 km walking)

    o One to two trains an hour run between the central Brussels stations and Waterloo.

    o Each hour at xx:13 in Brussels-No(o)rd, at xx:18 in Brussels-Central and at xx:25 in Brussels-Midi/Zuid station; arrives Waterloo at xx:49. Direction: Nivelles

    o Buy a single ticket at the vending machine or at the counter. Both take credit cards, only some vending machines take cash. Waterloo is outside the Brussels urban zone, so you have to buy an additional ticket (3.70 EUR).

    o Get off at Waterloo and prepare for a 1.5 km walk: walk into the direction of the Place de la Gare, at the roundabout take the Rue de la Station (far left), take the first to the right (Avenue des Tilleuls), second to the left (Avenue Adolphe Schatters), the first to the right (Rue Franois Libert) and finally at the roundabout to the left. The hotel IBIS and Waterloo Sports are at your right (Boulevard Henri Rolin).

    o For the registration and welcome buffet on Tuesday the 9th of June: take the train at 17:13 at Brussels-Noord/Nord, 17:18 at Brussels-Central or at 17:25 at Brussels-Midi/Zuid station.

    o For the session on Friday the 12th of June: take the train at 7:46 at Brussels-Noord/Nord, 7:51 at Brussels-Central or at 8:00 at Brussels-Midi/Zuid station.

    B. By bus from Brussels-Midi/Zuid station: this is the easiest option and takes about 45.

    o Take TEC-bus line W or 365a (yellow-red busses) to the bus stop Petit Paris, which is 100 m away from the hotel. These busses run towards Braine LAlleud (W) or Jumet/Charleroi (line 365a)

    o Busses run each 15 minutes until 19:05, each 30 minutes until 21:10 and once an hour until 23:10. The timetable is available on http://wp.me/a5CDme-3W.

    o To reach the bus stop from the Brussels-Midi/Zuid station, take the exit Avenue FosnyLaan, at the Platform 21-22 end of the corridors. Go to the left, cross the curving tram tracks (parallel with the railway lines), and you will find the (small) bus stop.     o Buy a single ticket (3.20 EUR on the bus only cash accepted, correct amount preferred). This ticket is not valid on Brussels metro, tram, local bus or local trains (MIVB/STIB).

    o Waterloo Petit Paris is your bus stop. This stop is the first after the Waterloo main square (bus stop Waterloo Eglise). When reaching the bus stop Petit Paris, head back, turn immediately to the left and you will see the hotel at the left a bit further. The Tennis Club Waterloo is behind the hotel.

    o For the registration and welcome buffet on Tuesday the 9th of June: take the 17:30 or 17:45 W-bus at Brussels-Midi/Zuid station.

    o For the session on Friday the 12th of June: take the 7:45 W-bus at Brussels-Midi/Zuid station (arrives 8:36 or later, depending on the traffic).

    C. By car

    o Free car park behind the hotel or at the Delhaize supermarket o Directions:

    From Charleroi/Brussels Airport: Take the Ring Est (RO) direction Waterloo, Exit 27.

    From Brusels Center:

    follow E19 direction Charleroi, Exit 22 Waterloo/Wauthier-Braine

    or go on in direction Waterloo-Ring Est (RO).

    D. By train from Brussels-National Airport

    o Take a train to Brussels and get off at Brussels-Zuid/Midi station (about 25 minutes, third stop in the Brussels central area, 1st = Brussels Nord/Noord, 2nd = Brussels-Central, 3rd = Brussels-Midi/Zuid)

    o Take a Flibco Brussels City shuttle busses to Brussels-Midi/Zuid station (http://www.brussels-city-shuttle.com/en/#/, twice an hour, travel time 1 hour, tickets from 14 EUR when booked online)

    o From there, you can take the train to Waterloo and walk from Waterloo station to the IBIS hotel

    Wednesday 10 June 2015 BEL, Brussels Environment

    Address: AM: BEL (Tour & Taxis site, Brussels Environment Agency, http://bel.brussels, Avenue du Port 86c/3000, 1000 Brussels) (participants can come to BEL directly, 30 minutes travel time from the airport railway station, 1 km from Brussels-North station)

    A. Walking from Brussels-Noord/Nord station (15 minutes 1 km walking)

    o All trains from the airport, and international trains from Luxemburg, Germany (only ICE) and the Netherlands call in Brussels-No(o)rd station. Thalys and Eurostar trains do not call in Brussels-Noord/Nord station, but in Brussels-Midi/Zuid, where you have very frequent trains to Brussels-Noord station.

    o Take the Simon Bolivar exit (main exit). Go downstairs and continue straight, over a roundabout (with pond and statue), and continue until you arrive at a double-lane avenue (Willebroekkaai/Quai de Willebroek). Follow this avenue to the right and take the left (over the canal). At the traffic lights go straight on (T-junction). You enter Tour & Taxis. The BEL (Brussels Environment Agency) is right in front of you (brand new, black modern building).

    B. By bus 14 from Brussels-Noord/Nord station (5 minutes)

    o Take the Simon Bolivar exit (main exit) and go downstairs. At the right of the square the bus stop marked 14 UZ Brussel serves Tour & Taxis. Get off at the first stop after crossing the canal (called Tour & Taxis, this is the 4th stop). Head back and enter the gate. The BEL (Brussels Environment Agency) is right in front of you (brand new, black modern building).

    o Buy a single ticket at the GO vending machines or at the KIOSK counter in the second hall (2,50 EUR, machines and KIOSKs take credit card). The machines and counters are marked MIVB/STIB. Do not take a ticket at the B-marked

    vending machines as these only supply train tickets. Alternatively, you can buy a ticket with the driver (2,50EUR).

    C. By car

    o Not recommended, but there is a car park (charged) at the Tour & Taxis site. D. By train from Brussels-National Airport

    o Take a train to Brussels and get off at Brussels-Noord/Nord station (about 15 minutes)

    o See directions above for walking or taking bus 14 to BEL Brussels o You can buy tickets at the vending machines or counters in Brussels Airport (8,50

    EUR to Brussels-Zuid/Midi)

    E. By taxi from Brussels-National Airport: not recommended as it is slow and expensive

    F. By coach from Brussels-South Airport

    o Take a Flibco Brussels City shuttle busses to Brussels-Midi/Zuid station (http://www.brussels-city-shuttle.com/en/#/, twice an hour, travel time 1 hour, tickets from 14 EUR when booked online)

    o Buy a ticket for the Brussels zone (JUMP ticket). o In Brussels Midi/Zuid take any train towards the airport, Lige, Leuven, Antwerp,

    .... and get off at Brussels-Noord/Nord. Half the trains leaving from Brussels-Zuid/Midi call at Brussels-Noord/Nord.

    G. By taxi from Brussels-South Airport: this is the time-efficient option (100 EUR)

    Thursday 11 June 2015 Groenendaal site

    Venue: Groenendaal site (Plenaries in Bosmuseum, Duboislaan 2, 1560 Hoeilaart; Parallels in Chateau; Duboislaan 1b, 1560 Hoeilaart) (15 minutes walking from Groenendaal railway station, 1 train/hour from central Brussels)

    H. By train from Brussels-Midi/Zuid station, Brussels-Central station, or Brussels-Noord/Nord station (35 minutes from Brussels-Zuid/Midi, 25 minutes from Brussels-No(o)rd + 10 minutes < 1 km walking)

    o One train an hour run between the central Brussels stations and Groenendaal. o Each hour at xx:48 in Brussels-Midi/Zuid station, at xx:52 in Brussels-Central; at

    xx:58 in Brussels-No(o)rd; at Brussels-Schuman at xx:06, and at Brussels-Luxemburg at xx:09 and arrives in Groenendaal at xx:22. Direction: Ottignies

    o Buy a single ticket at the vending machine or at the counter. Both take credit cards, only some vending machines take cash. Groenendaal is outside the Brussels urban zone, so you have to buy an additional ticket (2.70 EUR).

    o The Walk: Get off at Groenendaal, leave the platform via the concrete stairs. Take the tunnel to cross under the tracks and go straight on till 50 meters before the intersection with the Terhulpsesteenweg. On the left you see an OCTA+ petrol station, take the small path through the woods at the right. This path joins the road, but continues at bit further to the right. You walk next to the railroad and cross the ringroad on a wooden-iron bridge. Where the bridge touches ground, you see on your left an old farm. This is where the Forest Museum is located. The Groenendaal Chateau is 500 m further down the road (main road, Duboislaan) on your left. You can take a walking path that takes you from the Forest Museum to Groenendaal Chateau. There will be signs from the Groenendaal station to the Forest Museum and to the Groenendaal Chateau.

    o For the session on Thursday the 11th of June: take the train at 7:48 at Brussels-Midi/Zuid, 7:52 at Brussels-Central or at 7:58 at Brussels-Nord/Noord station. This train arrives at 8:22 in Groenendaal.

    On the Brussels Ringroad, take the exit Groenendaal (N275) and follow the direction Ukkel. The museum is in the Duboislaan.

    J. By train from Brussels-National Airport

    o Take a train to Brussels and get off at Brussels-Noord/Nord station (about 15 minutes)
