INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS IN THE BACHELOR OF MIDWIFERY (Pre-Registration) - BMID CONDITIONS OF ENROLMENT The ability of the university to provide the clinical placement component of the course relies on the availability of clinical places in the health sector which, in the case of midwifery, is influenced by the number of births available in the sectors. For this reason enrolment numbers at CDU are limited and are subject to the following conditions. Your decision to enrol in the Bachelor of Midwifery (Pre-Registration) is an agreement to accept the following conditions:
Information to assist you in identifying the study plan that applies to your enrolment is included in this enrolment booklet.
If you are unable to find a study pathway that suits you, or have other post graduate qualifications in health. E.g. RN with hospital certificate and a Graduate Diploma in Nursing or other health field please contact the midwifery course coordinator and discuss your situation. Tel: 08 8946 6596 or email: Virginia.skinner@cdu.edu.au
1. You agree to undertake the clinical placement component of the program at the time and place designated by the University
You have read the Pre-Clinical Requirement, Clinical Teaching Block (CTB) and Clinical Placement Information contained within this booklet; therefore , your continuing enrolment in the course is an agreement to accept the conditions surrounding CTB’s and clinical placements;
You have enrolled according to a study plan contained within this booklet;
4. You agree to discuss any deviation from the specified study plan with the ALU in writing (when swapping/changing units) via email to ehsoffice@cdu.edu.au
4
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CLINICAL PLACEMENT UNITS Pre-clinical Requirements The following must be read in conjunction with point two in the Conditions of Enrolment. Prior to enrolling in any clinical placement units, you will be required to complete a nomination process. The following link contains important information about the nomination process http://www.cdu.edu.au/health/undergraduate-midwifery As a Bachelor of Midwifery student at CDU, you are required to submit pre-clinical documentation specific to your state or territory prior to attending clinical placement. This documentation is generally required at least 4 weeks prior to attending clinical placement. For further information regarding pre-clinical requirements including immunisation requirements and submission dates by state and territory, please go to: If you have any questions or concerns contact the Nursing Pre-clinical Coordinator at preclinical@cdu.edu.au or the Midwifery Placement Officer at midwifplac@cdu.edu.au.

Clinical Teaching Block (CTB) Information Prior to attending a clinical placement you must successfully complete a 5 day CTB during which time you will practice and be assessed on the skills required to undertake your placement. N.B. MID 204 and MID306 do not have a CTB attached; the skills you will need are covered in the CTB attached to MID202 and MID303 respectively and you will have been assessed accordingly. The custom built laboratories at Darwin and Alice Springs campuses provide an opportunity for you to meet other students and staff, while exposing you to aspects of primary maternity and health care in the NT. Clinical placement Information Students may nominate for a placement in their own state or territory at a preferred health care facility, but are not permitted to arrange their own placement/s. Placements interstate are not guaranteed. CDU has strong ties with both private and public health care facilities throughout Australia and has successfully placed students in all states and territories; however, due to the demand made on interstate health care facilities by many educational institutions, many facilities are now limiting the number of placements they offer and this may impact on course progression. PLEASE NOTE: Students may need to travel outside their home town in order to complete their placement unit/s. Students are responsible for making their own travel and accommodation arrangements and meeting all associated costs. Whilst every effort will be made to meet a request for a preferred facility within the semester for which the student is enrolled, CDU reserves the right to place students at a facility other than that which is nominated and outside the semester for which they have enrolled. In order to meet the clinical requirements of the midwifery course, students must be prepared to attend placement outside semester dates, including semester breaks and be able to be ‘on-call’ at times.

STUDY PLAN INFORMATION The Bachelor of Midwifery (BMID) is a progressive course with each study plan being designed to facilitate appropriate student progression (unit sequencing in the study plan builds upon the knowledge that should be obtained in a previous semester/year). The School advises all students to follow one of the study plans contained in this information package as any deviation is likely to increase the course duration. Any deviation from the study plan should be discussed with the ALU or the BMID course coordinator prior to enrolling in units to minimise the impact of any deviation. APPLICATION FOR EXEMPTION/ADVANCED STANDING/CREDIT TRANSFER Students wishing to apply for advanced standing based on previous studies or incomplete studies from CDU or another institution are required to complete the HE113- Application for Exemption form which is located at http://www.cdu.edu.au/studentportal/adminforms.html. It is important to note that applications for advanced standing/credit transfer can take up to 3 weeks to be processed. Please note: A certified copy of your academic transcript, key to grades and unit outlines (document detailing the learning outcomes and assessments) must be supplied with your completed form as applications without supporting documentation will not be processed. As the University does not accept photocopied, faxed or scanned versions of a certified document, please post your application to the address provided on the HE113 form. To identify the units for which you are seeking credit (requirement of the HE113 form) go to the CDU
website and click on Courses (very top of main CDU page) and use the search box to locate the BMID course and units. You can then click on the hyperlinks beside the units to check the unit description. BMID AGREED CREDIT TRANSFER PATHWAYS ABORIGINAL HEALTH WORKER
