Local Baltimore resident Kedrick
Scribner exemplifies the essence of what
it means to be a father. Rather than boast
about his unyielding duties as a single
parent, he humbly speaks about his love
for his eight-year-old daughter Kedria
Scribner. Kedria managed to write a let-
ter to various media outlets on just how
important her father is in her life. “I
wanted the world to know just how great
my daddy is,” she said.
“My daddy keeps me healthy and buys
me clothes and all the things I need,”
Kedria modestly wrote in her one-paged
letter. “I know sometimes it gets rough
for him taking care of me by himself be-
cause I’m always doing something but I
know my daddy loves me very much.”
Kedrick works for the Baltimore City
Police Department and owns a tax
prepartion company, all while effort-
lessly satisfying the needs of his only
child. From the time Kedria was eight
months old, he gained full custody from
her mother who is “not in the picture,”
and raised her alone until he remarried
several years later.
The once shy Kedria instantly lights
up when asked to speak about her fa-
ther’s meaning in her life. “He is a very
fine father,” she says and goes on to
state that not only dies he have good
parenting skills, but is an all around
“very nice person.” The pride in
Kedrick’s voice is easily noticeable
when replying to his daughter’s remarks.
“I don’t mind realigning my life to make
sure she is taken care of,” he said.
His ultimate goal is watch Kedria uti-
lize the apparent bright and coherent en-
ergy she holds and transform it to
become someone significant. “She sings,
she dances but she mentioned that she
wants to be a police officer like me,” he
said with a resonating smile only a child
could cause. Until then, the relationship
between Kedrick and Kedria will
continue to be unmatched as they move
forward.

honors Neighborhood’s
Top Dads Continued from front page
“I was nominated last year, but this year
I was actually chosen so I’m very glad
to be here,” said Howze.
As the ceremony came to a close, the
feeling of deep pride and high spirits
resonated throughout the room.
“This afternoon, it is a privilege to
honor dedicated men who have given
selflessly, to keep Baltimore’s neighbor-
hoods better, safer and stronger,” said
Rawlings-Blake. “I say this having
grown up the daughter of a famous
fighter, someone who never backed
down if he thought he was right— Pete
Rawlings. My father spent his whole
professional career in service to this
city.” As the torch passes from father to
daughter it becomes clear how she lives
under her father’s legacy to celebrate
the citizens of Baltimore who strive to
maintain the city for a greater cause.
