Brief background Bangladesh enjoys increased of fish production both in culture & open water But homestead pond production is decreasing in the salinity challenged area
of southern Bangladesh Fresh water and biodiversity is also decreasing
12-Jan-19
The present study was conducted in Southern Bangladesh to observed the effects of fish composition on production of underutilized saline prone homestead ponds

Objectives
To identify the suitable fish species in the saline prone pond To assess the survivality rate of different fish species To compare the growth and production of different fish species To identify the suitable fish composition in the saline prone area

Express My Research Experience
12-Jan-19
Based on production level, DoF, 2017 categorized extensive aquaculture in ponds with annual productivity less than 1.5MT/ha in Bangladesh.
The production of the current study (1428-1869kg/ha/year) was higher than extensive culture production reported by Mazid, 2002 (700 kg/ha/year).
Chughtai and Mahmood, 2012 (1198-1410 kg/ha/year) although they reported 32.5% decreased production in saline water-logged area.
13
How the Experience would address the problem?
• The result shows that the salinity-challenged ponds can be utilized successfully with aquaculture.
• Based on the growth and survival it can be concluded that there remains potential for extra production
• This can boost production from homestead ponds and can contribute to increased household fish consumption.

Final Words
14
The homestead ponds in the saline prone area can play an important role to increase fish production, income and consumption in the
context of climate change events.
