Supersymmetry, supergravity, and superstring are amongstthe most popular research topics in particle physics. Super-symmetry is a generalization of the space-time symmetries ofquantum field theory that links the matter particles with theforce-carrying particles and implies that there are additionalsuperparticles necessary to complete the symmetry. Super-gravity is the theory that combines the principles of super-symmetry and general relativity. It naturally includes gravityalong with the other fundamental forces (the electromagneticforce, the weak nuclear force, in turn already unified in theelectroweak interactions, and the strong nuclear force). Stringtheory is the leading candidate for a theory that unifies allfundamental forces in nature in a consistent scheme. It alsoprovides a consistent framework for the theory of quantumgravity. Compactified string/M-theories make testable pre-dictions about our four-dimensional world.
The phenomenology of supersymmetry, supergravity,and superstring is thus very rich and covers many topics:flavour physics and CP violation, Higgs and collider physics,model building beyond the StandardModel, and astroparticlephysics and cosmology. Some recent developments in thesetheories, each with important applications to particle physicsand/or cosmology, are the main theme of this special issue.
One of the papers of this special issue discusses theconstrained generalized Killing spinors, which characterizesupersymmetric flux compactifications of supergravity the-ories, using geometric algebra techniques. Another paperpresents a study on what are called Adinkras, which are com-binatorial objects developed to study (1-dimensional) super-symmetry representations. Another paper reviews moduli
stabilization in type IIB string theory compactification withfluxes. Another paper in this special issue describes super-multiplets wherein a continuously variable “tuning parame-ter” modifies the supersymmetry transformations. Anotherpaper studies the constraints imposed on theMinimal Super-symmetric Standard Model (MSSM) parameter space by theLarge Hadron Collider (LHC) Higgs mass measurementsand gluino mass lower bound. Another paper studies helicalphase inflation which realizes “monodromy inflation” insupergravity theory. Another paper considers scalar Wilsonoperators of𝑁 = 4 Supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) theo-ries at high spin and generic twist operators in the multicolorlimit. Another paper author gives an overview about thefeatures that the Mathematica package SARAH provides tostudy new supersymmetric models. Another paper reviews apossible mechanism for the spontaneous breaking of super-symmetry, based on the presence of vacuum condensates.Another paper constructs and studies a formulation of achargeless complex vector matter field in a supersymmetricframework.
