EDITING PROCESS FOR FIRST DRAFT

H0W DID I GET TO HERE?

In order to get the green screen that shows at the start of all trailers I headed to YouTube to look for royalty free versions of it. Once I had found this I simply copy and pasted it into this online YouTube downloader and then saved it to my own PC as a video file.

I simply then inserted the file into Vegas at the opening of the clip and elongated it to 4 seconds the duration I wished it to last for in the trailer.

The next section of my clip as is the convention of movie trailers was showing the production company. This was created in final cut pro adobe, unfortunately the file corrupted. But the I used animation software to draw in the mouse simply making the text: Thiscan appear behind it as it moved across.

Every shot within my trailer has the same event attributes. This was created in the Vegas Colour corrector, I dropped the saturation and changed the offset somewhat. Essentially the effect I wanted to give was that of cold space. This was done by making all the colours slightly more blue as can be seen above. Once I had the even attributes I wanted I just copied and pasted them on every shot.

I wanted my next shot to fade in, to do this on Sony Vegas you drag your mouse to the right of the clip creating a fade. I wanted this to be relatively long.

In order to make the shot pull slowly outwards I used the event pan/crop tool. I made the shot closer in at the start and further away at the end. Meaning that as the shot progresses it pulls slowly outwards.

No fade was used here meaning this shot cuts faster to the next giving the instant and shocking effect I wanted.

In order to make the shot pull slowly outwards I used the event pan/crop tool. I made the shot closer in at the start and further away at the end. Meaning that as the shot progresses it pulls slowly outwards, this was only done slightly here to allow the shot motion to maintain intrigue but not be incredibly noticeable.

No fade was used here meaning this shot cuts faster than if a fade was inserted.

The event pan/crop tool was entirely crucial to this shot. In order to give the jerky zoom I wanted out of the eyes. This starts as an extreme close up and pulls backwards into a close up. In order to get this effect I started close up as seen at the 00.00 position and then at 0.00.20 pulled backwards as we see her eyes. The overall effect was the jerky zoom we see.

The next piece of the trailer is a piece of generated media- this gives me a black screen and allows me to do what I wish with it.

I then used the text tool to write the text in that I wished to appear on screen. This I then moved to the middle of the screen and adjusted to font size so it could fit.

I then used the crop/pan tool to bring the text slowly towards the viewer. Making to further away at the start of the clip and closer at the end.

Meaning that as the shot progresses it pulls slowly outwards, this was only done slightly here to allow the shot motion to maintain intrigue but not be incredibly noticeable. This was done in the exact same way as the first few shots in order to make them seemingly identical with the addition of a older actor.

This shot was simply inserted and the colour adjusted, the tripod maintains the still image.

This shot like the one of the younger actor is purposely edited to pull into the eyes. However while that is a lot quicker and more indie movie like this is slow and steady pull into her eyes progressively. This was done by cropping the shot into her eyes more and more on each frame- the process can be seen above.

A slight fade onset can be seen here- meaning that the text media fades into place.

Underneath these I inserted a audio track called- The stranger. This was simply taken from a royalty free music site and then inserted below and cut to length.

The effect used on this next shot is called the TV Simulator. It gives the gritty recording effect. I also again down below used the time frame to insert the jumps you see on screen meaning it feels as if it is a damaged recording.

In order to give it the look of a video diary I used the generated media once more. This was then inserted over the top of the shot as seen to the right. I simply wrote in the phrases I thought you would associate with a video recording and moved them over the top.

This text generated media has no fade giving the trailer a faster pace at this point.

I repeated the same steps talked about previously to achieve the same effect.

As soon as the dialogue begins I inserted a more action sounding track. This builds slowly with the speech and reaches it’s loudest during the action sequences- it fades away as the speech ends following the action shots.

The entire action sequence of the trailer incorporates fast cuts to increase pace.

The smoke seen here is not edited in but rather a practical effect used on set.

Post production I recorded the sound of heavy breathing and inserted it over the top of these shots- it fades out as the dialogue returns.

I repeated the same steps talked about previously to achieve the same effect- TV Simulator, Generated media.

The ominous music returns here- fading onset on the end and beginning. This indicates a return to the start of the trailer. It lasts the duration of the generated media and final shots.

This shot fades for this as previously said I simply dragged the mouse right.

No editing is applied to the camera work in this shot- simply the colour correction.

These generated media fade in and out- no movement contrary to earlier editing.
