The Blue Tree Project began in Western
Australia and encourages people to paint a tree
in memory of a loved one who lost their life to
depression or has battled the illness. The
project aims to help start difficult conversations and to
encourage people to speak up when battling mental health
concerns. So far, there are 250 registered BLUE TREES
around Australia.
This Sunday, September 15th, Edinburgh College is
supporting the Kinghorn family in spreading the important
message the Blue Tree Project promotes, by having a tree
painted on campus.
“We want this to be
a visual reminder
for our school
family to check in
on their loved ones
and people in our
communities,
especially the
young people, to
know that we care
about them and
their mental
health.”
– Kelly Kinghorn
You are invited to come and show your support by
placing a blue handprint on the painted tree between 2:30
and 3:00pm. The tree is located on Allenby Road just after
the driveway entry to the Primary carpark. This will be the first
registered Blue Tree in Victoria.
Year 8 Student Baptised A large number of family and friends witnessed Amy’s
decision to publicly choose to follow Jesus at her recent
baptism at Lilydale Adventist Church. It was also her 14th
birthday and a happy celebration followed.
Amy and her family wish to thank
those who attended and helped to
celebrate both her baptism and
her birthday.

Rock Climbing Challenge
Year 9 students recently had the opportunity to challenge
themselves and, for many, step right out of their comfort
zone, with rock climbing and abseiling.
Abseiling was my
favourite activity. I was
nervous about having to
lean back but once I got
the rhythm of jumping
down the cliff face it was
so much fun.
I also enjoyed the rock
climbing, starting on the
small climb then slowly
making my way to the
bigger rock climb. It was
a great feeling to reach
the highest point. I
wanted to go back and
do it all again the next
day. - Xavier
Canteen News Please be advised that due to price increases from some
of our suppliers, there will be some canteen items affected.
Some items will increase in price immediately and others
will increase in Term 4.
Online Lunch Ordering Edinburgh College will soon be changing to online lunch
orders. Parents are encouraged to familiarise themselves
with the new Flexischools online ordering system in
readiness for Term 4 lunch orders. Primary parents
received a flyer in the newsletter folder. Secondary
parents may request more information from the office.
Mrs Donny Wareham,
Canteen Co-ordinator,
has been busy setting
up the system ready to
roll out for the new
term. Watch this space
for further news about
this exciting
innovation.
Our greatest weakness lies in
giving up.
The most certain way to succeed is
always to try just one more time.

Shadow Puppets Year 5 students have been using shadow puppets to learn
about how shadows are formed when light gets blocked by
a translucent or opaque object. Each group has created a
script and puppet show which they will share with the class
later this week.
Last Few Days to Help
Please remember to help
the Year 2 students in their
Operation Christmas Child
service project by dropping
gifts into the Primary office
or to the Year 2 classroom before the end of the week.
If you haven’t time to go shopping, you are more than
welcome to donate some money and we will purchase
items on your behalf. We are very excited to see the gifts
coming in and look forward to packing and sending many
boxes again this year. - Miss Courtney
Just a reminder: we need to bring some gifts like toys, soap,
toothbrush/holder, toy cars, balls, books and maybe a wig
or two. We can’t pack things that might melt, damage other
things or break. Bring your gifts by this Friday so that we
can pack the boxes next week. Wouldn’t it be crazy if we
saw the kids that we gave boxes to in heaven?
- Joel, Year 2
This week the Primary students are focusing on the
value of Acceptance.
Prep B will lead the Chapel program on Friday.
PB4L Values Awards (Primary)
The following students were awarded last week for
showing Resourcefulness.
Eliana A., Naomi, Kaylen, Josie, Lachlan and Harry

Teachers, Miss Brown and Mrs Conway, are preparing for
the first of three orientation days for students currently
enrolled in the 2020 Prep classes.
There are a very limited number of vacancies for 2020 and
parents who might still be searching for the right school for
their five year old, are invited to contact the College for
further enrolment information.
Last week, next year’s Prep parents were invited to attend
an information night. Many families took this opportunity to
hear from the Prep teachers about what they and their little
ones might
expect during
their first year at
Edinburgh
College.

Futsal Finals The futsal competition had plenty of twists and turns to
work out as the finals began. Team Josh knocked out
Team Riley to proceed to the grand final. Teams Brodie
and Tom were locked in a tie at the end of their semi, and
it took some goalie heroics from Ju Huang to save a
couple of penalties and help Brodie’s team through. Once
in the final his team dominated to win 2 - 0. Brodie ended
up a goal in front of Tom as the leading goal scorer for the
competition as well.
Well done to all players involved and particularly to Joey
Chamberlin for running the competition so ably. It is
terrific that we can play many intense games in a spirit of
excellent sportsmanship. - Mr Brooks
