    A rural village is located near a 40-ft waterlall. The stream deliversminimum of 200 ft3/min of water in the course of a year (1 m = 3.28 ft).the target energy to be supplied to the village in a year is 85 MWh,

    calculate the efficiency of the hydro power plant, and[5 marks]what will be the suitable type of turbine to be used and why?[5 marks]

    b. As an engineer of Manjung Thermal Power station, you have beenappointed to lead a task force to solve the problem of low thermalefficiency at the thermal power station. State in your report the TWO (2)factors that will be the cause of the problem and propose the solution.

    An impulse generator has eight stages with each condenser rated for0.16 pF and 1 25 kV. The load capacitor available is 1000 pF.lf 1.2150 :s impulse wave is to be produced, determine the ohmicvalue of series resistance and the damping resistance.

    [5 marks]i. lf the charging voltage is 120 kV, determine the maximum outputvoltage of the generator.[5 marks]b. An impulse current generator has a total capacitance of 10 pF with thecharging voltage is 30 kV. lf the impulse current generator has to generatean output current of 10 kA with 8/20 rs waveform, calculate the chargingvoltage required for the target output.[5 marks]

    c' A single stage impulse generator is not suitable for generatingvoltages more than 200 kV. Justify this statement and propose a suitabletype of impulse generator for voltages more than 200 kV.[5 marks]

    a. Cable-Tech company is implementing a high voltage insulation cabletesting. The testing voltage required is 400 kv A.c. As an engineer,propose a technique that can be used to generate 400 kV for the testingpurpose, and justify your answer.[5 marks]

    b. lf the capacitance potential divider available is of the ratio 1000:1 andpeak reading voltmeter shown in FIGURE Q3 is referred, design a peakreading voltmeter along with a suitable micro ammeter such that it will beable to read voltages, up to 100 kV (peak).

    As a Director, you are encouraged to take an extensive knowledge ofthe physical world into the political arena where you can have an effect onpolcy decisions. When faced with the question of which policy to set forthe future direction of energy (which forms of energy you will encourage tobe developed, either non-renewable energy or renewable energy) in yourarea, describe what recommendations you will make and justify.[5 marks]

    At Pulau Perhentian, Terengganu a 100 kw wind farm is to be installed.The annual average wind speed is given in FIGURE e4. The rotordiameter of the wind turbine is 1o m. The density of air, pis 1.2 kg/m3 atsea level and the target efficiency js 40 %.calculate the power output in kw, if the wind resource at 10 m andpropose number of wind turbine to be installed.
