Early Communication: A Natural Approach

Communication is central to all areas of

development. We, therefore, have to

nurture a ‘Communication

Culture’ around our children very early in

life.

The Power of Play: Play gives a child with multiple challenges reasons to come out of his isolation, to touch and be touched, to hold hands,

to smile when we say, “Good job!” and so on

The topic or medium of play can be anything and everything

that works – anything that

generates some interest and allows

us to laugh and have some fun

together

Play facilitates development of pre-verbal communication. It provides a chance to: develop an imitative interaction develop anticipation ask for more of a game or action make choices initiate a game learn to wait for others’ turns

Play also helps children develop numerous concepts

Songs and rhymes – simple home-made songs – have a great role to play
