Functional Skills ICT:Entry Level 1 Sample Lesson PlanRationaleNot all tutors supporting learners with ICT are ICT specialists themselves. Therefore supportive links forthe tutor are given throughout. Some of the links are schools-based but still have value for tutorsworking with adult audiences. The aim is also to support tutors to consider using resources and activitiesthat they have not used before eg podcasting, blogs and wikis.
ach of the ! sessions are full of activity and timed for about "# minutes. $owever, depending on yourlearners and the duration of your sessions you may choose to break down the sessions. In some cases itwill also be worth revisiting activities but in different conte%ts to ensure that your learners have secure
skills at this level.
ach session should begin with a refresher of what happened in the last session and a reference to anyhomework or self-study that was set.
&art of the rationale of the S'( is to facilitate learning by giving learners ideas of how they can supporttheir own learning eg using )ou Tube or help desks.
*t each level of the +ualification these subsume the previous levels skill standard and coverage andrange. $ence you may find that some of your learners need to review the activities covered in theschemes of work in levels below that which they are studying you may find they have gaps in theirunderstanding.

The criteria of these +ualifications specify the re+uirements in terms of skill standards and coverage andrange at each level. *t each level of the +ualification these subsume the previous levels skill standardsand coverage and range, supporting a progression-based suite of skills +ualifications. Tutors may chooseto use activities and lesson plans from lower levels to support their learners where they may have notfully developed skills or perhaps have not used the skills for some time skills need to be secure beforethe learner moves on.

Supporting learners to produce their own definitions and their own set of cards
(ord of the session Kpassword. (hat does it mean8 The aim is for the learner to develop an understanding of what the term means and to be able to
recogniJe them. ?any learners have problems in the final assessments because they do not recogniJe words.
'ne of the issues highlighted by many people new to using ICT is remembering the technical terms and they find it liberating when they become familiar andcan use the terminology themselves. $owever when working with ntry level / learners it is important to use these with discretion remember rephrasingmay be used where appropriate. Some ntry level learners are simply new to ICT others may have literacy or other issues which need to be considered
