Study Goals 

1) Provide Radiology Residents in Nairobi with teaching sessions by a mentor from University of Virginia, USA; and,

2) Assess the feasibility of creating a community of learners among residents at AKUH, Nairobi.

• Needs assessment – Visit Nairobi, October 2007

• Teaching file on Ftp sites

• Monthly live internet sessions on WebEx

• Cases for 17 weekly Col meetings

• Google discussion board

Goal 1  Teaching Residents by WebEx conferencing

• Validate understanding of new information• Make it ‘fit’ practice in Kenya?

OBJECTIVE: to enhance collaborative learning among Radiology residents at AKUHN.

• 17 weekly meetings of Community of Learners• Resident’s learning diary • Google Discussion Board

Using NARRATIVE to enhance LEARNING and project EVALUATION

Nature of interaction between faculty and residents

Faculty played a facilitator’s role, encouraging problem solving and only providing practical

wisdom where appropriate

• CoL promotes self-management of learning

• Enhance technology for interactive teaching sessions

• Train faculty in skills of community building & collaborative learning

because if we can teach over the internet, then academic radiologists at universities … everywhere can assist in the training of radiologists in less developed countries”.
