WELCOME TO COLORADO CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY
Colorado Christian University (CCU) is a four-year liberal arts school that is
accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of
Colleges and Schools. More than 50 majors and minors are offered through our
College of Undergraduate Studies for traditional students as well as a number of
degree plans in our Master’s Program.
Out of nearly 1,200 institutions rated by the American Council of Trustees and
Alumni, CCU was one of only 23 to earn an “A” for its core education. Over 1,200
students are enrolled hailing from all 50 states and multiple foreign countries.
CCU’s average class size is 14 students, meaning professors have the opportunity to
know their students.
CCU’s average incoming ACT score for freshmen is 24.7, combined with an average
GPA of 3.65 means CCU is a magnet for students that take learning and faith
seriously. When it comes to scholarships and grants, 92% of CCU’s students
receive over $12 million in financial aid.
CCU is sandwiched 15 minutes between downtown Denver and the Rocky
Mountains, smack in the middle of a diverse urban scene and world-renowned
backcountry. No classes on Friday means students have a weekly occasion to
explore the beautiful state of Colorado, have a job, or engage in ministry
opportunities through CCU or their local church.
CCU has the following schools of study: School of Business and Leadership, School
of Education, School of Humanities and Sciences, School of Music, and School of
Theology. There are a variety of international study abroad opportunities across
the globe and the University recognizes credits earned through any accredited
study abroad program.

Dual Credit Program The purpose of this handbook is to specify the details of Colorado Christian
University’s Dual Credit program. The program was initiated in 2011 to help
families save on the high cost of college tuition by offering college-level courses
taught on the high school campus, using the high school’s college-level curriculum
taught by the high school’s credentialed faculty.
The program offers a wide range of general education courses in order to meet the
requirements of high school graduation while simultaneously earning college
credit.
Vision: A vibrant dual credit program promoting affordability and school
autonomy.
Mission: The mission of Colorado Christian University’s Dual Credit program is to
grow partnerships with high schools in offering affordable high quality
undergraduate education to high-performing high school students by enabling
schools to maintain their autonomy in dual credit curriculum.

CCU Dual Credit Faculty Credentials & Expectations
Faculty Credentials
CCU Dual Credit faculty instructors must be approved as CCU Highly Qualified
Faculty members in order to teach specific dual credit courses. Dual Credit
faculty must have the same academic credentials and qualifications required of
CCU faculty members.
Preferred qualifications:
1. Master’s or doctorate degree in subject area
2. Master’s or doctorate degree outside of subject area (e.g., a Master’s in
Education), and 18 graduate credits in subject area and/or industry
experience
Please contact your CCU Dual Credit Representative for additional criteria used to
approve faculty members.
CCU Dual Credit faculty must be approved for each course on an individual basis.

Faculty Expectations
Approved CCU Dual Credit faculty are responsible for:
1. Promoting the dual credit course opportunity with their students and
parents. CCU Dual Credit faculty are able to utilize CCU’s Dual Credit print
and web-based materials for the promotion of the course.
2. Obtaining rosters of registered CCU Dual Credit students from the school’s
CCU Dual Credit contact.
3. Submitting student grades at the end of the course. CCU Dual Credit
Representatives will advise on deadlines.
4. Viewing/treating the dual credit students as college-level students.
Faculty Status CCU Dual Credit faculty are considered volunteer dual credit faculty. The dual
credit faculty member is not an employee of Colorado Christian University.
WebAdvisor for Faculty In the near future, CCU will offer digital library resources for all CCU Dual Credit
faculty through WebAdvisor.

CCU Dual Credit Course Requirements
CCU Dual Credit courses must be college-level in curriculum and assessments in
order to meet CCU’s college standards for content, quality, and rigor. CCU Dual
Credit courses must be similar to general education courses offered at CCU in
course content, competencies, and learning outcomes.
CCU Dual Credit courses must use text and resources that are challenging and in
alignment with the course content.
Dual Credit students should receive the course syllabus by the first or second day
of the dual credit class. Sample CCU Dual Credit syllabi guidelines are to be
utilized in updating or creating the course syllabus.
The syllabus is to include the following:
1. Teacher contact information and office hours
2. Course prerequisites (set by high school)
3. Course description and objectives
4. Student learning outcomes
5. Course content details (Scope and Sequence) in weeks with student
assessments listed
6. Text and resources
7. Grading policy
8. Attendance requirements
9. Course evaluation criteria for assessments/types of assessments
10. Performance standards
The syllabus is approved by CCU’s Dual Credit Department. This collaborative
approach is designed so that students receive a syllabus that includes information
with the same elements as a syllabus for a course taught on the college campus. It
is important the syllabus has the elements necessary for both secondary and
postsecondary requirements.

Assessments Examples of course assessments are required for all CCU Dual Credit course
submittals. CCU Dual Credit courses should incorporate multiple forms of
assessments and include final exams. CCU Dual Credit course assessments should
use the same methods as those found in the college course: papers, portfolios,
quizzes, labs, midterms, projects, etc.
Tests are not to include fill-in-the-blank, true or false, or matching questions. They
should be composed of essay, short answer and multiple choice questions.
Grading rubrics should be included for essays, research papers, projects, labs, etc.

The course is an introduction to environmental science with an emphasis on the
complexity and interrelatedness of environmental issues, concerns, problems, and
economics. The impact of humans on ecosystems, resources, energy and the
environmental are presented. Special reference is made to the significance of
sustainability and the politics involved in its promotion. The problems of

pollution, waste management, hazardous and toxic materials are explored in
depth. The roles of business, industry and government related to the environment
will be addressed.
Course Prerequisite: None, but it is highly recommended that a pre-college or
college-level composition course be completed prior to enrolling in Environmental
Science.
School Policies:
1. Assessment: Students will be assessed using formative and summative
methods such as tests, papers, labs, projects, quizzes and participation.
2. Plagiarism: Submitting plagiarized work for an academic requirement is
considered misconduct. Plagiarism is the representation of another’s work of ideas
as one’s own; it includes the unacknowledged use of another person’s ideas.
3. Lecture participation: Students are encouraged to participate in the
learning process and are responsible for all assigned readings. It is recommended
that students complete each reading and assignment prior to the corresponding
class.
4. Lab participation: Students are required to participate in all labs. Attending
less than 70% of the labs is an automatic failure of the course.
5. Exams and Quizzes: Students will be allowed to make up 1 exam or quiz at
the discretion of the instructor, and arrangements must be made within 24 hours
of the missed exam or quiz. Makeup of missed exams must be arranged with the
faculty and completed within the week of return to class. A valid excuse must be
given and may require a written excuse.
6. Exams and quizzes: Students will have weekly quizzes and unit exams. The
course will have two finals-one at the end of each semester.
7. Class assignments: (lecture and lab) Students will have a one-day grace
period for submission of the class assignments. Assignments turned in after the
grace period will be considered late and will have points reduced by 10% for every
calendar day the assignment is late.

8. Lab: Labs are open for use when a faculty or lab monitor is present and
there is not a class present in the lab. Lab safety is the responsibility of all and you
are expected to read and abide by the safety guidelines. Students must sign lab
waivers prior to participating in labs.
9. Cell phones: Cell phones must be kept out of sight and the ringer turned off
at all times.
10. Academic misconduct: Any activity that compromises the academic
integrity of the course or subverts the educational process will be investigated by
the school and dealt with accordingly. Examples include, but are not limited to:
cheating on exams and/or class assignments, plagiarism, falsification of records,
unethical computer use, and unauthorized removal of materials from the
classroom, lab, library or offices.

Grading Policy Acceptable CCU Dual Credit grades are A, B, C, D, or F. Students are only given
credit for grades of C and above. Yearlong course grades should be the average of
the fall and spring semester. Dual credit students must follow the deadlines in
regard to dropping a course.
All grades earned in the dual credit course will be transcripted by CCU.
The CCU Dual Credit Department will contact the high school near completion of
the semester, or school year for yearlong courses, in order to give instructions for
submitting grades. Please average the two semester grades for yearlong course
grade submittals.
Schools should submit letter grades upon completion of the semester/school year.
The CCU grading scale is shown below and is not weighted.

Colorado Christian University uses a four-point system to calculate semester
and cumulative GPAs.
When a student transfers a CCU Dual Credit course, it is important they know
what transfers. There are some institutions that incorporate the student’s dual
credit grade into their GPA upon entrance into the university and many others

that only take the credit(s). CCU does incorporate the grade into the overall GPA
if a CCU Dual Credit students attends CCU.

Course Requirements
Courses must follow the official syllabus, as best as possible, approved by CCU.
Courses must use the approved college-level textbooks and resources.
Students registered in CCU Dual Credit courses should participate in a summative
evaluation designed by the course instructor. The summative evaluation is
typically an end of year final exam or other project. High school policies
allowing certain students exemption from final exams should not apply to
Dual Credit courses.
Tuition Rate Each course, regardless of the credits, is $200.
Student Eligibility
The process the high school has in place for students entering into challenging
course such as AP and Honors, should be in place for CCU Dual Credit courses.
Students are typically juniors and seniors, but sophomores can be considered for
CCU Dual Credit courses if they have exceptional performance in prerequisite
courses.
CCU does not require a specific GPA for admittance into CCU Dual Credit courses.
CCU does not require testing prior to admittance into a CCU Dual Credit course.
Rosters
Rosters of CCU Dual Credit students are sent to the school contact at the
beginning of each week once registration begins. It is the responsibility of the
school contact to disseminate information to the Dual Credit faculty in regard to
students registered as CCU Dual Credit in their perspective CCU Dual Credit
courses.
CCU Dual Credit Representatives will contact CCU Dual Credit faculty at the
beginning of each semester to share the process involved in student registration as
well as roster and grade submittal information.

CCU Dual Credit Student Process & Information
Student Registration The process for student registration is simple and students are not required to
apply to the university in order to register for CCU Dual Credit courses.
Students can register for dual credit courses online at
https://secure.ccu.edu/dualcredits. The application has three sections and will
take a student less than 10 minutes to complete. The student should have their
Social Security Number (SSN) and a credit card in order to complete the
registration process. See figure below for first page of CCU Dual Credit
registration.
International students should place 0’s in the SSN spaces in order to move forward
in the process.
CCU Dual Credit faculty are not required to have a minimum number of registered
students in order to teach a CCU Dual Credit course.
Students may register for as many CCU Dual Credit courses as their high school
academic counselor recommends.

Student ID’s and WebAdvisor Students receive a confirmation for payment and a confirmation for registration which includes their CCU Student ID. With a CCU Student ID, they are able to register for a Digital Student Account (DSA) through WebAdvisor which will provide access to CCU’s online library resources and the student’s unofficial transcript.
The following email is sent to all CCU Dual Credit Students:
WebAdvisor Access for Dual Credit Students As a dual credit student at CCU, you have access to helpful online resources
through WebAdvisor, CCU’s online student portal. Through WebAdvisor, you have
direct access to the CCU library, library databases and the CCU bookstore. Plus, you
can view your class schedule and grades, and print your unofficial transcript.
Before accessing WebAdvisor, you need to set up a Digital Services Account (DSA)
with CCU. To complete the DSA Application, you need your CCU student ID
number, which was provided to you by CCU, and your Social Security Number. Be
sure to indicate your student type as “Dual Credit”. During the DSA creation
process, you will set up your @students.ccu.edu email address.
If you are an international student and do not have access to a Social Security
Number please leave that field blank. If you encounter any difficulties please contact

Student Transcripts and Transfer of Credits Transcripts must be ordered online through www.ccu.edu/transcript. As of 2016,
transcript costs are:
Electronic via PDF - $5 (2-4 days processing, delivered immediately upon
processing
Paper transcript, USPS first-class mail - $10 (2-4 days processing, standard
delivery time – no guarantee)
Paper transcript, Rush (FedEx or USPS Express) - $10 transcript, $25 per
envelope (domestic), $35 per envelope (international) (next day delivery)

It is recommended that students not place a transcript order before final grades
have posted. If the order is placed prior to final grades, students should
indicate on the form that they wish to have their transcript held for current
semester grades. CCU will not offer refunds for transcripts sent without grades.
CCU post grades on transcripts 48 hours after they are received from the high
school. The transcript will have CCU’s course equivalency and the student’s letter
grade which must be a C or better in order to receive credit. CCU Dual Credit
grades will be added to a CCU undergraduate student’s GPA.
Students will see final grades posted in WebAdvisor.
Grades Student grades are a professional judgment of the CCU Dual Credit faculty at the
high school. CCU will not alter grades based on requests from students.
Transferability of CCU Dual Credits It is best for students to contact institutions of interest prior to registering
for CCU Dual Credit courses so they understand how course credits will
transfer. Transfer information can be found on many institution’s websites or by
calling the school’s Admissions office. It is the institution receiving the credit that
determines if the credit is accepted and how it is applied. CCU does not offer
refunds for credits that do not transfer.
As a four-year liberal arts university accredited by the Higher Learning
Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, CCU Dual
Credits transfer to most colleges and universities across the nation.
Student Eligibility for CCU Dual Credit Courses It is up to the individual high school to decide which students are eligible for dual
credit courses. Normally, these are sophomore, junior and senior level courses that
are more rigorous than other courses within the school’s curriculum.

Student Drop/Withdraw Process
A student may drop a CCU Dual Credit course by filling out the “Course Drop/Withdraw” form found at: (https://apps.ccu.edu/dualcredit/DC_Drop_Withdraw_2015.pdf) and mailing or faxing the document to CCU. Upon approval, tuition will be refunded depending on the date of the drop deadline. Withdrawing after the drop deadline will result in no refund and a grade of W.
Student Attendance
All CCU Dual Credit students are expected to attend all classes and laboratory periods for which they are registered. Valid reasons may arise which make attendance impossible or inadvisable. In those cases, ruling on the validity of excuses is the responsibility of the individual instructor operating within the existing policies established by the high school.
Academic Integrity
All CCU Dual Credit students, faculty and administrators are responsible for ensuring that their behavior is consistent with the highest standards of integrity. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, the following categories: cheating, fabrication, plagiarism, aiding and abetting, and unauthorized access to academic or administrative records or systems.
Taxes
If the student’s social security number is recorded on the CCU Dual Credit Registration form, CCU will send a 1098T reflecting the tuition payment. Receiving the 1098T form may have tax benefits for some individuals. It is important to consult with a tax professional for additional information.
CCU Scholarships for CCU Dual Credit Students
CCU Dual Credit students that choose to attend CCU will earn a $1250 scholarship that is renewable throughout their college career on CCU’s main campus.

CCU Dual Credit Course Observations
CCU Dual Credit courses are observed on a three year rotating basis. CCU Dual
Credit Representatives set up observation schedules with the School Dual Credit
contact. Completed observations are emailed to the CCU Dual Credit course
instructor and the school contact.
CCU Dual Credit course observations are completed in order to maintain the
integrity of CCU’s Dual Credit program and abide by the standards set forth by the
Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and
Schools.
Representatives will observe the following during their classroom visit:

About Colorado Christian University CCU is a four year, fully accredited, liberal arts university. Over 1,200
students are enrolled from all 50 states and several foreign countries.
CCU offers five main schools of study: Business & Leadership, Education,
Humanities & Sciences, Music, and Theology.
Academic programs and faculty will challenge and equip students to
explore faith which relates to all learning and knowledge.
