➢ Writing and execution of Drug Search Warrants

➢ Physical Surveillance of during Drug Operations

➢ Development, Management, and maintaining control of

informants

➢ Undercover Operations to include Vice Operations

2

The Prattville Drug Enforcement Unit has five(5) assigned

Investigators and one(1) Intel Analyst. The Drug Enforcement Unit

is operated with a one Sergeant, two investigators assigned to the

Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and High Intensity Drug

Trafficking Area (HIDTA) and two City Drug Investigators. The Intel

Analyst is from the Alabama National Guard Counter Drug Program.

3

Why is it when a citizen makes a complaint about

suspected drug activity it seems nothing is never done?

➢ Drug investigations are complex and take time to build a case against

a suspected drug dealer.

➢ Every detail of the investigation a Drug Investigator makes from the

time they receive the complaint until the arrest will be scrutinized

by the citizens, Police Officer’s chain of command, DA’s office,

Defense Attorney, and Judge.

➢ We have to determine whether the person is actually involved in drug

activity, is a threat to public safety, officer safety and what method

of investigation is best to stop the activity in a timely manner.

➢ This does not help you as a citizen when it’s your neighbor and you

are having to see the activity taking place.

➢ Remember we have to follow the law, drug dealers do not.4

We get support from the Alabama National Guard

Counter Drug Program. Here at the Prattville Police

Department, we have a National Guard Counter

Drug Intel Analyst assigned to our Drug

Enforcement Unit. Their Mission is to support the

Drug Enforcement Unit to gather intel on any

individuals, or groups within Drug Organizations.

This cost the City absolutely no money.

64

Drug Dealers and Traffickers live in ordinary

houses and drive ordinary cars. There are no

signs on the house or tags on the cars to let

everyone know what they are doing.

65

Without the help of you, the citizens, giving us

information our job would be a lot harder to stop

illegal drug activity within our neighborhoods.
