DRAWNFROMLIFE-------WEEK2DRAWINGASSIGNMENTAspartofyourweeklyworkload,youshouldbedrawinginyoursketchbookonadailybasis...anditreallydoesn’tmatterWHATyoudrawaslongasyou’reputtinginsometimeworkingtohonethisskill.Thatbeingsaid,therewillbeweeklyassignmentsthatneedtoshowupinyoursketchbookattheendofthequarter.Thisweekyouhavetwospecificassignmentsaswellasonethatshouldhavebeengivenoutlastweek.Let’sstartwiththelastonefirst:

1. Onthecoverofyoursketchbook(hopefully),thereisanillustrationofsomesortorelseaverygooddrawing.Yourtaskistomakeanexactreplicationofthatdrawing.Inotherwords,youneedtomakeasketch---donewithnearphotographicprecision---ofwhateverisillustratedonthecoverofyourownsketchbook.Thisisnotsomethingthatyoucandashoffin20minutes;itmighttakeyouseveralweeks(oreventheentirequarter!)tofinishthisdrawing.Doitslowly,methodically,andwithagreatdealofattentiontodetail.[NOTE:Yourdrawingmustbeinblack-and-white,regardlessofwhetherthedrawingonyoursketchbookiscolorornot.]

2. Continuouslinedrawing:thisexerciserequiresthatyoumakeadrawingbyfollowingthecontoursofthingsinyourvisualfield.(see3examplesbelow)

Theoneruleisthatonceyouputyourpencilonthepapertomakeyourfirstline,youcan’tliftitupuntilyouhavefinishedtheentiredrawing.Yousimplyfollowthecontourlinesofthingscontinually,pickingupasecondobject’scontourlineswhentheyoverlapwiththoseofthefirstobject.3.Texturalduplicationdrawing:usingapagefromyoursketchbook,makearubbingofsomethingthathasagoodtextureonit(youdon’tneedtoripthepaperoutofthesketchbooktodoso),usingabouthalfasheetofyourpapertodoso.Ontheotherhalfofthepaper,trytoreplicatethetextureyou’vecreatedbyrubbingbydrawingitfreehand.
