Though newborns vary, they often exhibit several common features. For instance,

infants have a soft spot on the top of the head that usually disappears within six months to a year and a half. Following birth, many infants demonstrate swollen eyelids that slowly lose

their puffiness over the next 72 hours. Further, their eyes may appear red, but the unusual color frequently goes away within a

month or so.

Newborns yawn, sneeze, and hiccup. New parents often worry that these behaviors

spring from an underlying health problem. However, in most cases, they are no cause for alarm. It is also common for infants to experience mild nostril congestion in dry

climates.
