Façade contractors and manufacturers now have a high-performance solution to the challenges posed by slow-curing one-part sealants, mixing challenges of multipart sealants and limited movement capability of tapes. Dow Corning® 121 Structural Glazing Sealant answers those challenges with a fast-cure, easy-to-install formulation.
Dow Corning 121 Structural Glazing Sealant is a neutral-cure, RTV silicone sealant ideal for repair or replacement of structurally glazed glass and other substrates. It is equally suitable for on-site structural glazing – including storefront systems or attachment of panel stiffeners – as it is for in-shop structural glazing.
Easy-to-use, user-friendly dispensing Featuring a unique 1-to-1 (“121”) mix ratio, Dow Corning 121 Structural Glazing Sealant is supplied in a two-part cartridge, complete with a static mixer. Whether
solution that both eliminates the need for specialized pumps and mixing equipment and minimizes quality assurance issues.
Enhanced productivityCompared with one-part sealants, Dow Corning 121 Structural Glazing Sealant
• Repairs can be completed in just one day (24 hours) compared with 14-21 days
• Swing stage rental is reduced from one month to two days
Superior performanceDow Corningbetter performance than organic weatherseals and structural tapes, offering durable, UV-resistant, long-life performance and excellent movement capability.

High-Performance Insulation for Next-Generation Curtainwalls
Dow Corning® Architectural Insulation Modules
Meet near-zero-energy-building challenges with the design options of high-performance insulationWith an ultimate target of near-zero-energy buildings, energy regulations are becoming ever stricter in an effort to meet targets set at international and national levels. Why? Because buildings are significant contributors to energy challenges, contributing approximately 40% of carbon emissions globally and 40% of primary energy in the U.S.
Dow Corning has the technology to help meet these challenges. Dow Corning® Architectural Insulation Modules (AIM) combine the aesthetics and convenience of curtainwall construction with the added energy-savings benefit of high-perfor-mance Dow Corning® Vacuum Insulation Panel (VIP) – offering building designers and architects the design freedom to:
• Enable new design possibilities for zero-energy buildings
• Significantly increase thermal resistance in space-limited situations
• Create slim wall constructions with high R-value performance
• Delay or eliminate need for triple-glazed windows
• Contribute to ASHRAE 90.1 performance require-ments through energy modeling
• Contribute to green building rating systems such as LEED® – Dow Corning Vacuum Insulation Panel is a recyclable material and is included in the Pharos Project library
Dow Corning Architectural Insulation Modules feature:
• High-efficiency insulation
• Thin-profile construction
• A variety of architectural finishes
• Long-term insulation performance
• Mitigate condensation risk
• Robust construction for easy handling during assembly and installation
• Immediate integration in classic frame systems (unitized, structural glazing, stick)

DOW CORNING® ARCHITECTURAL INSULATION MODULES
Typical Configurations Dow Corning Architectural Insulation Modules are currently available in various combinations of glass/glass and glass/metal facings. To help you select the optimal insulation panel for your specific project, Dow Corning has developed dimensioning tables describing the required glass type and thickness depending on the panel dimensions, building type, building location and encountered loads.
Vacuum Insulation Panels Boost Energy Efficiency at Leading UniversityAt the University of Birmingham School of Metal-lurgy and Materials (United Kingdom), architects were challenged to replicate the building’s facade to maintain its original aesthetics while also improving its thermal performance – a consider-able task given the prevailing space constraints. High-efficiency 0.7" (18 mm) thick Dow CorningVacuum Insulation Panels were installed in between the glass panes in the spandrel units in areas where total concealment of the internal structure was required to hide existing services and floor slabs, with the panel thickness optimized to meet the needed insulation requirements.

PERFORMANCE DATA
Figure 3. Effective insulation values for various curtainwall designs (modeled results).
Meet Real-World Insulation ChallengesFor insulation systems, the effective R-value is much lower than the nominal R-value due to thermal bridging. High-performance buildings require energy modeling using effective R-values for accurate assessment and comparison of insulation systems.
Mineral wool is insufficient to meet the demands of next-generation curtainwall. Even with a nominal R-value of 16, in a back pan with conventional frame, its effective R-value is only 3.8, and using thicker amounts adds minimally to the effective R-value. Comparatively, Dow Corning Architectural Insulation Modules enable facades designed to deliver effective, real-world insulation performance.
