Double Object Pronouns

A review.....

• Objects receive action in a sentence.

• Action is received by an object directly or indirectly.

• Objects can be replaced by either Direct or Indirect object pronouns.

The Object Pronouns

Indirect Objects

When using object pronouns, it is possible to replace all objects, both direct

and indirect.

Follow this order when rewriting the sentence:

An example....

Eduardo dio el libro a mí. Eduardo gave the book to me.

Direct Object Indirect Object

The rewritten version of the sentence:

Eduardo me lo dio. Eduardo gave me it.

“me” replaces “a mí” and “lo” replaces “el libro.

le/les “se”

• le or les change to “se” when coming before any pronoun beginning with “L” (lo,la,los,las).

Mostró las fotos a su hermana.

Se las mostro.

Dieron un regalo a los niños.

Se lo dieron.

Pronoun placement.

• The same rules apply as for single object pronouns:• Before the first conjugated verb.• Attached to the end of an infintive.

¿El libro....a Carmen? Se lo doy.

I’m giving her it (to her).

Voy a darselo.

I’m going to give it to her.
