S.st-
1. To visit the Government museum in Chandigarh, attend the sculpture section and find some facts about making sculptures and arty-facts.
2.To learn about different rocks used in our surroundings, home or daily life.
Science-
1.To collect different soil samples from our surroundings and present them an activity.
2.To explore out the basic information on the factors that lead to different colors of different soils.
3.To perform an experiment and find out the percolation rate of different types of soils. Also mention the steps involved in the experiment.
Mathematics-1.To make a picture using various geometrical shapes and color it using different soils.English-1. To jot down a short poem on “I AM A ROCK”, imagining
ourselves as a particular type of rock.Hindi-1.To compose a letter to our friend telling him/her about our
learning's from the project.Creative Thinking-1.To presume to go on a soil safari and delineate a short
science fiction illustrating our experience.
Social science- Rock : Rock is the solid mineral material
forming part of the surface of the earth and other similar
planets, exposed on the surface or underlying the soil.
Science- Soil :Soil is the material, normally unconsolidated
and directly below the ground surface, composed of rock
material, weathered to a greater or lesser extent,
including organic matter, and able to support plant life.
Mathematics- Geometrical Shapes :A geometric shape is
the geometric information which remains when location,
scale, orientation and reflection are removed from the
description of a geometric object.
Science- Soil Color : Soil color depends on geographic
location, mineral composition, organic matter, rock
sediments and water retention or drainage capabilities.
Soil Percolation: Soil percolation is the time taken by the
soil to absorb water.
•English- Poem: A poem is a piece of writing in
which the expression of feelings and ideas is
given intensity by particular attention to diction.
Creative thinking- Science Fiction: Science
fiction is a genre of fiction dealing with
imaginative content.
Story: A story is an account of imaginary or real people and events told for entertainment.
Hindi- Letter: A letter is written, typed, or
printed communication, sent in an envelope by
post or messenger.
Located in sector 10, government museum & art gallery
in Chandigarh is a very famous tourist attraction
place that houses magnificent Gandhara period stone
sculptures. Government museum & art gallery came
into existence in the year 1968. The credit for the
wonderful designing of this museum goes to le
Corbusier. Chandigarh government museum and art
gallery is a perfect place for viewing the prehistoric
fossils and artifacts. We can also find beautiful
miniature paintings over here.
• The museum also has a spacious reference library to meet the
intellectual needs of scholars and students. It houses a
number of art galleries, which can be broadly classified as
Gandhara and Hindu sculptures, miniature paintings,
decorative arts and coins & contemporary art gallery. Hence
library to meet the intellectual needs of scholars and students.

Art & Sculpture Section at the Museum
• The Government Museum and Art Gallery, Chandigarh,
owes its existence to the partition of the country in
August,1947. It is one of the premier institution of India
with a very rich collection of Gandharan sculptures,
Pahari and Rajasthani miniature paintings.
Names of different types of rocks:--• White Marble
• White or light gray
• Mostly bright white
• Made of medium-sized crystals that glitter in sunlight.
• Dolostone
• Mostly light gray
• Made mostly of small-sized crystals that may or may not glitter in sunlight.
• White Chert
• Mostly white, sometimes chalky looking or smooth
• Broken edges may be scalloped or sharp.
• Quartz rock
• Most pieces stained rusty red or yellowish, or coated with rusty-red powder.
• If you look closely, you'll see small, pointy crystals and thinly layered rock.
Soil Percolation
Soil Percolation Rates and Percolation Tests
The soil percolation rate indicates how quickly water
moves through soil and helps evaluate the ability of the soil
to absorb and treat effluent — wastewater that has received
preliminary treatment in a septic tank. The percolation rate
is measured in minutes per inch (mpi). Soils with slower
percolation rates, through which it takes longer for water to
travel, need larger drain fields to handle a given amount of
wastewater than those with faster percolation rates. Soils with
very slow percolation rates may be unsuitable for drain fields.
When soil percolation rates are slower than 60
Mpi, consider installing a lagoon system if the lot is at least
three acres. Otherwise, an engineer must design a specialized
system

The Soil Safari!!
The soil safari was an unimaginable journey. When my team members and I went deep inside the soil then we got to know that what the soil is and how it is made. The first layer that we encountered was Humus, which is very good for growing plants. Afterwards, different layers of soil started coming. We also discovered earthworms, which are known as farmer’s friend and they were busy purifying the soil. Many different kinds of micro-organisms were also present and they could be seen by special glasses provided by the soil safari members.
After some-time, the journey was not smooth enough as we were entering the rocky region of the earth. We all were very surprised to see many different types of minerals in them, which are taken up by plants and then transferred to us. After the rocky region we turned back as we were approaching the core region, where-there is mantle and molten lava. Last but not the least, we were shown crude oil, impure gold which was laid to believe because there was not so much difference in pure and impure gold. Also, many fossils were shown which were found by the archeologists. If given a chance, we would like to go again and also request everybody to once in their lifetime must go on this amazing Soil Safari Trip.

In this presentation, first we gathered the information and then combined it.
Then we checked the information and a sided the correct one.
After- wards, we typed it accordingly in the form of different slides.
We also designed the backgrounds and added animations in the slides.
By making this project “DIG INTO THE UNIVERSE OF SOIL”
we all have come to know about different types of soils and
rocks. Social- Studies Activity has enabled us to go across
the boundaries of The Government Museum at Chandigarh
and also helped us in knowing different types of rocks used
in our surroundings/ daily life.
Secondly, in the Mathematics & Science Activity we have
come to know about different geometrical shapes, factors that
lead to different colors in different soils and uses of soil
percolation. Thirdly, writing a poem in English Activity and a
letter in Hindi Activity taught us how to write a good poem
and letter. Creative Thinking Activity was a great fun.
So, in the nut shell we have concluded that making this project
has flourished our mind with new knowledge and innovative
ideas.
