Atlani HouseRaipurA blend between the Courtyard typology and the Modern Glass house.

Client : Suresh AtlaniLocation : RaipurSize : 15000 sq.ft.Skills : Architecture and InteriorStatus : Stalled

Project Brief : Sitting on a sprawling plot of 40,000 sq.ft., the proposed design investigates the idea of Traditional “Courtyard Type” vs. “Modern Glass” House. The internal spatial organization is worked around the courtyard such that individual inhabitant gets a Private terrace and is reflected externally by means of modulated Glass facade. This individualistic experience is further enriched by integrating the Landscape into the house.Designing houses is all about experiences. The challenge for this project was to create an experience of its own as the site was devoid of any context. Taking advantage of the squarish nature of the plot the House was designed to have large central

court as the main social space for the family members. The courtyard forms the heart of the house around which 5 bedrooms were arranged.

Avasthi HouseLudhianaA house nestled between a series of Public and Private spaces

Client : Ashok AvasthiLocation : LudhianaSize : 5000 sq.ft.Type : Architecture and InteriorStatus : Presentation

Project Brief : The house occupies a long and narrow plot surrounded by buildings on 3 sides. Forced to derive the light and ventilation only from top and front, the house is designed around 2 courtyards one Private and other Public. The transition from Public to Private spaces thus creates varied experiences which otherwise would not have been possible in such a tight space.

Ambekar’s ResidenceMumbaiAdaptive reuse of an old apartment

Client : Ambekar Location : Mahim, MumbaiSize : 1000 sq.ft.Type: ResidentialStatus : Completed

Project Brief : The primary idea was to subvert the conventional notions of creating picturesqueness within the interior environment. A new kind of aesthetic therefore has emerged out of organizational moves followed by material strategies. The 1000 sft apartment had 2 Bedrooms & 1 small study room which was adjacent to the ‘L’ shaped Living–Dining area. However the existing organization failed to delineate the spatial/visual connections between all the said components. The design proposition was a ‘Wrap’ formed by sloping ceilings of Living- Dining and the partition which separated the dining area from the study room. The ‘Wrap’ not only defined the dining space but also made the living space

bigger at least by a meter. The ‘Wrap’ is then pierced by a ‘Box’ which separated the living room & the study room. However the separation was not hard as the box was skinned by frosted Acrylic. The boundary between the two spaces was thus blurred. An element of ‘Light Streak’ was added between two sloping ceilings which not only illuminated the outer space but also visually connected it to the interior bedrooms. Both the Bedrooms followed the same language of austerity as the outside spaces. Although the wooden furniture was minimal it was enough to bring warmth in the house. The white walls were draped with contemporary Artwork. Small items were used to embellish the Domestic environment with Play.
