TRANSCRIPT

Dietrich Cabin RestorationTim Wilson and his three sons, Gilman City, MO, spent a week during June 2013 at Dietrich Cabin replacing several rotted logs and replacing inappropriate

chinking on three sides. Here they are removing chinking.

More removal of chinking. They use an air compressor to get the last bits out after it is loosened.

Tim begins preparation of a walnut log with a chainsaw.

After several cuts with the chainsaw, he hews the log with an old axe.

Hewing is hard work!

The old axe that Tim uses is his, but one just like it is one of Dietrich Cabin’s artifacts.

The newly hewn log on the sawhorses and the rotted log that it will replace in the lower left.

News logs in place on the north side of the cabin.

New logs on the northwest corner of the cabin.

The rechinking process takes time.

Tim Wilson and his sons. They have restored log cabins throughout the Midwest and also build new log homes in the traditional way.
