• Anorexia Nervosa

• Bulimia Nervosa

• Cancer

• Cardiovascular Disease

• Diabetes

• Food Allergies

• Food Intolerances

• Hypertension

• Obesity

• Osteoporosis

Anorexia and Bulimia

• Anorexia

– 15% loss or more of body weight

• Bulimia

– Recurrent episodes of binge eating and self induced vomiting

Cancer/Cardiovascular Disease

• Cancer

– Link to Diet and Cancer

– Eating habits influence susceptibility to certain kinds of cancers

• Cardiovascular Disease

– Number 1 killer in men and women

– Include heart attack, stroke, Hypertension, Angina..etc.

Diabetes

• Genetic disorder not caused by eating too much sugar

• Two types

• Must be controlled by diet

• Can be related to Obesity and Pregnancy

Food Allergies and Intolerances

• Food Allergies: Abnormal response to the immune system to otherwise harmless foods, such as peanuts, milk and shellfish

• Food Intolerances: Physical reactions to food resulting from faulty metabolism

Hypertension

• High Blood Pressure

• Can be hereditary, a result of obesity or too much sodium in the diet

Obesity/Osteoporosis

• Obesity

– Men having over 25% body fat and Women having over 30% body fat

• Osteoporosis

– Condition of gradually weakening, brittle bones
