• Partners: Denver Public Schools, Denver Urban Gardens, Slow Food Denver

Getting Involved

• Register with DPS

• Attend training held by DPS, DUG and SFD

• Contact Kitchen Manager

• Recruit students/class to participate

Trainings• Held in August in tandem with youth farmers’ market

trainings• Make sure all paperwork is filled out• Review protocols• Pick up baskets

• Harvest Baskets

• Scale

• Recording Sheet

GTC Harvest Day: Preparation

• Touch base with kitchen

• Gather materials

• Survey garden

GTC Harvest Day: Work with Students

• Gather students• Sick?• Hands washed?

• Harvest• Rinse large visible dirt• Weigh• Record• Bring to kitchen

GTC Harvest Day: In the Kitchen

• Wash

• Refrigerate for 24 hours

• Need to be below 41°F

• Add to salad bar

• Payment

GTC Payment

• DPS records the harvest totals each week

• Wholesale prices for the produce are recorded from vendor

• At the end of the season, once harvest totals are verified, DPS writes checks to each garden program based upon the wholesale prices

Community Gardeners

• School-based community gardens managed by DUG

• Community gardeners can participate• Harvest with the students or mark what is to be harvested• Donation
