FOCUS QUESTION: What is a closed

syllable?

A closed syllable is followed by a consonant and has a short vowel sound.

Most VCV words are divided into syllables after the first vowel, and the vowel sound is long.

Examples:basic, began, beyond, bonus, depend,even, hotel, locate, moment, music,recent, relax, result, robot, student,tiny, unit
