Reminder about Hysplit

• Call NWS Jackson and request a Hysplit run.• We will need: Location Start time Height of release (If Known) Release quantity and duration (If Known)

How to Request it

• Call WFO Jackson• Can Be run in just a few minutes• We can run the models from 15 minutes to several

hours.• KML File can be emailed to you and displayed in

Google Earth.• Can be used for smoke plume.

1 Hour KML Output for Google earth

Can Give you a good first guess on the plume

Special Event Plot

• New Software for our Computer• We can Plot special events on our

workstations• What does this mean for you?

• Will be contacting and requesting information over the next couple of months.

• Looking for events that draw approx 500 attendees or more.

Examples:

Outdoor Concerts Baseball Tournaments4th of July or other Holiday Events

Local On-site Support• Have been providing this for several years now.

• When public safety is at risk or for large events (e.g. Sturgis South)

• NWS Jackson can send a meteorologist to the location to support an operation

• This service is free to the county that requests the support

relationships for the real event

• Allows us to demonstrate our capabilities

• Helps us learn what your needs are

• Allows for training

Future activities

• If there are any exercises or large events in your counties/parishes, we would like to participate.

• Please ask for onsite support if you feel the incident could use onsite weather information.
